View Full Version : Ban fatties

I was just reading Johnny's "Corporate barstards..." thread and had a bit of an idea (that will no doubt remain as an idea and never progress past these pages).

Now, if you are drunk and walk into a pub, they are actually required to refuse you service. So, why couldn't a fast food outlet refuse service to an obese person?

No doubt the obese person could get it if they really wanted to, but the harder you make the habit, the easier it is to kick.

Just a passing thought.

I reckon your custom title sums it up.... There are exceptions. My brothers' gf has a thyroid condition which makes her an obese vegetarian....

Besides... It's be hard to make happen... I don't think the whole "Help people help themselves" ethic fits with the general corporate "Let's make a fkload of cash from our business venture" stance...

Part of the problem is that most of the fatties work behind the counter. They've got to get to work somehow (maybe through the backdoor).

Thats an interesting point and maybe it would work to a point. I think it's not a bad idea.

Hahaha, pretty funny idea, but i think somewhat unrelated to being drunk.

When pissed, you get refused as a result of being drunk because you are a risk to yourself and other patrons.

If you are a fatty, and you are eating loads (not saying that all obese people eat alot), you are only a risk to youself, albeit not a huge risk in the public eye.

Stull funny though, i can picture some dude at maccas being refused based on his dimensions, "sorry mate, your 5'10" and 98kg... im afraid were going to have to with hold from serving you, its the law."

Not true. The current increase in unhealthy living (i.e. poor dietary intake, lack of exercise, etc.) is overloading the health system and costing the state government millions each year. This affects all of us.

I reckon this plan would last until the first time they tell a woman she's too fat to be served. They'd never find the body ;)

Maybe McDonalds should issue all overweight people requesting service with a personal trainer, to ensure that their exercise compensates for the energy they're cramming in...

A blood test to determine vitamin deficiency wouldn't go astray.

Come to think of it, they should ahve a moral responsibility to just shut up shop and refuse service to everyone, because their food isn't actually healthy no matter how thin the customer is.

The heading to this thread looks like a novelty T shirt......:D
I think the idea of refusing service to a drunk person is a good thing for obvious reasons. I also think that (to an extent) refusing to sell an overweight person junkfood is a way of helping this evident problem of fat people. I doubt that it will ever get the nod from the pen pushers of any business because it is there to be sold, that is what they do.
Some people have reasons for being overweight other than eating shit food and doing no exercise. It would be a world of courtroom hysteria for people who were refused a bag of donuts from a shop because they were stretching the waistline of their pants though.........

I do agree with your philosophy how ever who defines ''fat'' You got your real boom busters right thru to people with just a little bit of excess weight, do you ask them to step on scales and then take their weight and height to determine their body fat prior to taking their order. It real shits me to think ive registered as an orgon donor and my parts will probably go to use in someone who has used and abused their body thru over eating, heavily drinking and smoking, then again at that stage why would i worry :p

Its a funny idea sxereturn.:)

By the way, since I was about 15years old, I have been classified by standard measures to be obese, or at times morbidly obese. I have never been fat in any way, just very stocky (I grew up playing Rugby Union), with rather solid legs. I'm 5'7" and weigh between 85-90kg. Up to 95 back in playing days.

I'm obese - hehe.:p

I dont think it will work, being fat isnt the only gauge of being unhealthy.
High cholesterol levels will be attained from eating maccas, and this is even more dangerous because the person may be very lean and can still suffer a heart attack or stroke.
This happened to my grandad, he looked fit and lean but had very high cholesterol from eating fatty foods, then he had a stroke.

What im saying is that surface apperance is not the only dip stick of health.

Hmmmm. Perhaps I should stop riding because I'm a kook, frequently hurt myself, and place unecessary strain on my local ED and the health system.
I think that Australians should lobby for the Howard Government to develop the Australian Identity Card that also contains the cardholders health history.

Present the card and you can or cannot purchase fast food based on your health status. Come to think of it, the social engineering power such a card would wield would be for the good of all Australians. Enforce healthy choices for the people who can't make them for themselves, or their children. One step towards reducing the strain of the health system and the costs associated with unhealthy lifestyles.

Fuck, to hell with it, why do things half assed. Include genetic information that is used to decide who has good genes and bad genes and decide who can reproduce and who can't. Kind of like natural selection, only sped up a little.

Some people choose religion, some get loaded, some ride, some eat.

I'm going to put this out there to see what you guys think. But I'm thinking of getting governement approval for "harvesting" fatties as a form of Renewable Energy. This way the fatties can eat what ever the hell they like and then just pop around to my clinic and I can lipo out a heap of fat that I can use to convert to energy.

Everyone will be a winner here. Renewable Energy source, no one has to worry about what you eat. It's all good!

Ive actually put some thought into this and suggest that it is made compulsory for all fast food packaging to have a picture of heart disease or other illness or diseases releated to obesity just like the cigarette packets do. so funny seeing people ordering their food and asking for packaging which they dont find too offensive like they currently do when getting their lung bungers

Uh uh, and Beer cans should have pics of cirrhosis of the liver, pissed tramps, beaten wives and Mel Gibson on the side.

Perhaps new cars should be sold with pictures of horrific smashes on the side panels, or Mountain bike components could have x-rays of smashed collar bones, pics of missing teeth, road rash or 45 year old accountants dressed in lycra.

Hell, if we're going to have a nanny state, let's just ban fast food altogether and live on baby formula!

What I can't believe is how the yanks banned vegemite because they seem to think the folate in it is dangerous to pregnant women. What the? It's the other way around. This vitamin is actually crucial to healthy baby development and can prevent neural tube defects and spina bifida.

How dumb, and how unjustifiable. They will ban a good old source of aussie vitamin B, yet they wont ban big macs!? I'm sure big macs are just tops for baby development!

It was actually banned because in the US the only acceptible source of Folate is from grains (i.e. bread)

Have you heard all this talk about our hospitals not being equipped for the obese patients?

I say if a patients arm is to fat to have the blood pressure done, too wide to fit in a hospital bed, to large to wear a gown or even walk then refuse to help them! Why should our taxes be wasted in health care for people who clearly dont give a rats ass about their bodys

BTW, I love both your caring and sharing outlooks on other peoples misfortunes. If only the hospitals shared your views on 'self-inflicted' conditions. We'd have a lot less selfish bastard MTB-ers clogging up the ER's with their broken wrists, shattered collarbones etc.

Hmm, I agree to some extent about "Why should we have to pay to save someone with a self inflicted illness?" but I don't think it's fair not to treat them as a human being. Sure, ultimately obese people make the decision about what they put in their mouths and the amount of exercise they participate in, but society is such a shit fight these days. A lot of people don't have the time or mentality to prepare a nutritious lunch and dinner everyday. A lot of people can't afford healthier foods, i mean, a salad sandwhich and an apple juice costs you $12 as opposed to a $5 feed from McDonalds. It's also hard for some people to find time every week to exercise. A lot of people struggle with maintaining a healthy weight due to body type so just say "What the hell, no matter what I do I don't get any thinner anyway". A lot of people have low self esteem and find comfort in eating unhealthy foods while sitting on their bum watching TV.

It seems like a waste of money pouring it in to helping these people who 'choose' to abuse their bodies, but I can't help but feel sympathy for the ones that don't know any better or need help.

I reckon, instead of fixing a problem that has grown to be so big (literally) why not put the money in to preventing it?

Yeah it really sucks hey, I love those Boost Juice type drinks so much that i crave them. The problem being, there is not one juice bar within closer proximity of less than an hour away from where I live. Yet there is 3 greasy takeaway shops, KFC and Eagle Boys within walking distance.

As I walk through Woolies I think to myself, a nice fresh fruit salad would be so awesome right now! I walk to the fruit section, shit, $4 for a mango, nope, those banana's are still to expensive, what! I'm not paying that for one measly little passionfruit, as if i'll buy those grapes at $9 for one bag. I continue to the biscuit section, bbq shapes, hmmm only $2.30 this week, god I love that red flavour stuff that seems to work itself to an abundance at the bottom, mmm, what the hell, and I throw them into the basket.

it's not that I didn't want to choose the healthy option, it's that the world makes it to difficult sometimes!!

Uhoh, sudden craving for a Boost Juice :(

Careful assuming Boost is a particularly healthy option. There's a whole lotta calories hiding awy there. better than greasy stuff yep, but still worth looking closely at before calling it 'healthy'

Agreed. My only concern with things like Boost is that people tend to think "it's fruit, I can have a large one on top of my normal lunch and it's all good. Damn, why am I getting fat?"

As long as you factor into your meals a big juice/smoothie in the same manner as you would say a large coke it's all good.

(I'm not singling boost out, same goes for all juice/smoothie mobs)

Yeah, but calories are in everything, the natural sugars in an apple, unless burnt by the body will be stored somewhere. Boost juices, not necessarily the smoothie types, contain nothing but REAL fruit and contain no added sugars, fats or preservatives. How can it not be healthy? It would be like calling a salad sandwhich unhealthy because it's made with bread. If i drink a boost juice and eat a salad sandwhich I feel really good and motivated. I eat KFC and I feel like pile of shit and skull as much water as I possibly can to try and flush the oily greasys out.

They are healthier options.

true, because its natural its is a 'healthier' option but not necessarily perfect. any sugar or fat wheather good or bad is still sugar or fat.
