Looks like alot of you out there think that because hack does a story on something they are correct. Remember they are media too and might i say not as open and unbiased as you all seem to believe. I listen to it too when i cant ride my bike home and am forced to drive but fuck me they are just as one eyed as any commercial news network and sometimes borderline negligent in their message.

Agreed.
Just because it's not a corporation putting a spin on things doesn't mean that other people and groups won't put a spin on it.

Im waiting to listen to Hack before i comment on this subject
OMG im so funny :p :p :p :p :p :p :p :p :p
Very true, however, its good to at least get an insight into some issues that the regular media don't really touch on.
Weather their line of questioning and selective playbacks of interviews etc is 100% factual, it does bring issues to the greater publics attention, which IS a good thing. If anything it can arouse curiosity in the public and hopefully the real facts DO get brought out at a later date.
SBS news is still my choice.

Don't lie, you always turn your phone off during Hack so no one can interrupt you while you are being fed the wise ways of the J's...........:p
Hack is great but yes, like all media it hasn't got the be all and end all of the facts. It is one of my favorite media outlets though because it does have an edge that isn't seen / heard too often. They get a lot into the half hour they have.

hack is now shit.
when steve was in charge it was objective, topical, insightful and above all interesting to listen to.
but with this new girl at the helm it has deterioated into sensationalistic crap. it is poorly thought out, offers only one viewpoint and seems to be written by propogandite lefty morons. and i'd consider myself a lefty! these guys represent us as ignorant, obstinate fools.
and it seems to have a majority of the same journalists, who up until recently were capable of some terrific reporting...
the target stories are no longer current affairs without the fair coverage they deserve, but seem to be more along the lines of emotive side stories pitched at naive sheep waiting to have something to fight for!
the last time i listened to hack, the main story was on an electric car seeking safety approval for registration.
i am all for renewable energy and the cessation of fossil fuel use, but unfortunately this vehicle just did not reach our road safety regulations, and was inapropriate for road usage. And hack argued that the environmental benefits of this car outweighed the safety problems, an idea that the car's importer and promotor disagreed with anyway!
they just would not let it rest!

Ahh, thats a shame, I used to listen to Hack (thats what i based my post on) right up until Steve moved on... was always a good listen in peek hour traffic.

Forget Hacks glory days, how about Francis on the morning show? Best 3 hours a day on radio.

i wasnt a regular listener, but i thought even some of steve's interviews were pretty poor. i think they all got a bit too wrapped up in asking 'the hard questions' and would harp on about the same thing even after the question had been answered.

Ahh jesus you should have heard the one yesterday, when that guy who always sounds like he's a primary school kid trying to narrate a story, interviewed David Hicks' lawyer. He kept on pressing and pressing and pestering about "what makes you different blah blah" and some shit about being critical of the american government. Even when the guy had said about five times that he didn't think he was doing anything unusual in standing up for the rights of his client (as that's usually what lawyers do), and that his criticisms weren't of the government itself but of a particular military trial POLICY... the Hack guy just kept asking and asking and repeating himself. It got so bad that I wanted to ring up and tell the guy to shut the fuck up and listen to the answers.

Not sure if any of you were listening to Hack this afternoon...
They had an interview with a guy who they said was the CEO of an Australian CEO Group, and they were attacking the huge amounts of money CEO's get payed.
But to me it sounded like JJJ was being had - The Yes Men Style (if you haven't seen this DVD it is a great watch).
Can't remember the exact details of the interview, but just remember thinking "Ah, proof that Hack has gone to the pooer".
Did anyone hear it? What did you think?
I didnt hear it, but its a senseless argument. Most people who argue that point are just bitter about the low income they are on, nothing is stopping them from getting a CEO paycheck.

yup for sure. if i was in a position whereby, if something goes wrong you are gooone i'd want a pretty decent salary too. its probably not the case with some CEO positions, but id imagine most are a pretty stressful job.

During Super Request, Rosie was saying that they had some comedian on pretending to be a CEO or something. I don't know if it was the one I heard (the one saying there should be no minimum wages, and that such highly paid CEOs were worth it to the company/shareholders blah blah) though, or someone before that. There was definitely A part during hack where yes it was staged... do not for the life of me know why they'd do that.

Yeah, that and the fact that they're obviously worth paying $10 million a year if they can help save a company 100 million a year or whatever. As you say, it's not like one person making lots of money means that you somehow can't.

don't get me started on tax evasion. the idea of paying 50% of your salary in tax is sickening, its not something anyone in my family has, or will probably ever have to worry about, but i can sypathise with the situation. sure they still make a lot of money buck fuck 50% is a pretty big bite.

Agreed.
Great interviewer and host in general. Francis got me through a number of dull mornings at work.
Where did he end up going? I tuned into Classic FM yesterday and noticed he was doing promo voiceover work for them, does he host a segment as well?

He was pretty good at being an arrogant f-wit, but does a half hour program really need stupid filler like that?

Hmm, i wonder if the Glass House has had an influence of JJJ's current affairs coverage, particularly Hack? It may be possible..

I listened to that story too, and by the end of it was in exactly the same mindset.
I tend to agree with the importers argument that maybe we do need a quadracycle category (and that ADRs are often retarded anyway), but the way that Kate tried to shape the issue, and then the idiot callers they put to air sapped any credibility the issue may have had.
And don't get me started on that bloody presenter that S. mentioned before, the one who sounds like a 6 year old trying to explain to his mum what he did at school today.
Benton's story for jTV on the recycled water issue around the time of Toowoomba's vote was a joke too, I know I put in a not so subtle complaint about that sensationalist crap.
It really is a shame I think. There are still som good stories at times, but they seem to be getting fewer as time goes on. Then again, I still don't think a 30 minute slot is near enough time to allow for more than one good story.

Hack has gone from a current affairs program to left wing, soft crap hippy (h)activism......although we loved them when they took up the Eugene McGee story!

steve's morning show was great too...it was like 3 hours of Hack (which, as you know, was like three hours of Francis :) )

i feel your pain S...I think that was Ronan Sharkey, and he shits me at the best of times...A real inability to move on from a question if the person doesnt answer it, whcih is fine if they are just dodging it, but not if they legitimatly dont want/cant answer (like Hicks' lawyer yesterday)...
Where did he end up going?Vega or some other lame adult orientated soft rock station, from memory. They poached quite a few ABC personalities and still got nowhere in ratings.

Glad to hear there are more people out there who think the show sucks. I dont know how many different ways they are gunna come up with to hassle ebay (example only and not an invitation to judge my thoughts on the site)on scalping etc either, must have heard that debate bout 50 fuckin times, or was that just the same story with the same question repeated in the hope of getting a different answer to.
Also shits me the way they tend to belittle some of the govt reps they ask on the show to talk about anti drug intitiatives etc, seems they are more keen on trying to seem cool about drug use than promoting or supporting what is being attempted to reduce it or its impacts.
Either way it is the constant asking of the same questions over and over again and then blaming the respondant for not giving them a different answer and that bugs me the most.
My last post on the topic as i am gunna press play on th CD player when 5:30 hits from now on, cant be assed whingin anymore, just gunna act.

The one show I heard and will have a go at. I am not completely sure if it was hack, but it was about that time.
He was interviewing a pro wrestler from US, and they had a small wrestle to see what goes on. Anyw way at least FOUR times in the space of five minutes, he was going on about how the wrestler should be doing the "subtle" approach. Basically he was trying to appear intellectual and to make out that the "subtle" approach was what he would do.
It's wrestling for f**ks sake! What is there to be "subtle" about?
It came across as a weedy little guy (his words not mine) trying to belittle a very physical guy, for not taking a "subtle" approach.
It came across as very poor understanding, or an attempt at pseudo-intellect from the interviewer.
