hey all

Just a quick question where do you put your mobile phone while riding esspecially DH (and if you planing to hit some long tracks and move on when you get to the bottom, so you wouldn't be able to leave a bag at the top) And if you want to go somewhere local and don't want to take a bag! Would you put it in your pocket but if you stack you break like a $500 phone? and most backpacks are to bulgy and big and get in the way will you trying to hit some stuff and get some flo!!
Are there and cases or shorts with hard padded pockets for your phone, or anything similar?

where do you guys put your phone will riding?

p.s If i could have it my way i just wouldn't bring one but there's always that chance u get real hurt and your ages away from help, so yeah:o

cheers tom

Wallet and 5mm allen key in 1 poket, phone in other. My phone is a brick though, so there's no way i'm gonna break it. I'v got bruizes on my leg from landing on it, but it hasn't broken yet.

break like a $500 phone?

thats a bit of a waste in my opinion, but il say something worthwhile.

Go to like woolworths or something like that and buy a cheapo phone, like $50 if you take it riding and break it and it doesnt matter.

EDIT: or something like this http://cgi.ebay.com/NOKIA-3315-working-condition_W0QQitemZ330047736773QQihZ014QQcategoryZ 32622QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

but yea my friend has a camel bac that is very slim and not bulky at all, but it only holds around half a litre.

I'm in the market for a camelbak too. Although if your not fussed on it been a generic camel bak then ebay has some cheapo ones on there. Just make sure you get one with a removable baldder and a sternm, cant spell sorry, strap.

Something like this is perfect

Dont know if it has removable bladder though

Im also looking to buy a phone, need one cause just got p's etc etc so parents want me to have one, anyway if you know of one that is strong and has mp3 capability tell me.:o

yer thats the thing most phones these day's if there gonna look good and have the camera and mp3 and mp4 campatibility, chances are there not going to be to strong, but have a look at the nokia range stacks of people i know give them a rep of being compact and strong.

yeah camle pack, might be the way to go for me, but ill probably get tired of taking it everywhere with me esspecially local and end up putting my mob in my pocket. I'll kick my self if i brake it:mad:

I use a pocket PC phone and got a second pay as you go sim card which I would use in an old phone just for riding. After a little incident in which it took an ambo 45 minutes to find me I now use my pocket PC which has a built in GPS. I carry it in the camelbak in between the bladder and spare tube.

It it gets trashed I think the cyclecover insurance which I got for the bikes and includes the home contents will probably cover it.

My mate had a cheap hydration pack and he said you could tell it was cheap. Then he got a camelbak and reckons they are the go.

If you already have a Camelback I bought a Saddlebag. Big enough that you can buy some egg foam and pack it all around on all sides. Slide your phone in, zip it up and you can crash until your hearts content. Just make sure your rear tyre doesn't hit if you bottom out.

Also if your wearing a Camelback and you crash and flip over and slide on your back, it can rip open or damage anything that's being stored in it. I've known many Camelbacks to burst through to rocks ripping open the back of it and either having the bladder tear open, or a gash appear in the back. A saddlebag is cheaper and so long as it's padded effectively, and I believe offers more protection. Or so i'm of the opinion anyway.

I use a nike trail running bag it has waste strap and chest strap and is very slim and you can carry a fair bit of stuff if you want but doesnt move on your back and has a pocket for your phone inside and no one can find it even if you tell them where it is (blind):p but yer its good and cappability for a camelback bladder aswell

I'm going to be getting myself a mobile phone soon. All i need is black & white screen, calls, sms and long battery life. None of this fancy camera, mp3 and video stuff. Camelbak is definitely the way to go if you want to have some protection. Obviously, you can fill it up with everything else you need for a ride as well.

Just make sure, if you have a saddle bag, that you don't put it in their. One of my mates stored his in his saddle bag. After a long, rough, rocky trail the screen was broken from the phone hitting the seat-rails.

If you are worried about the screen cracking then pack it with foam. If you had bothered to read my reply earlier you would've read it. There you go :)

Today i was out at Mt Isaacs (Canberras South) and when i was riding one of my mates bikes i stacked from landing a jump, pedal slipt up and ate some of my calf and i flipped off for a few metres, i had a camel back with soem things in it and one was my $400 phone Samsung D600 which the main cover of it is a decent size screen, wasnt in any special pocket or anything and i rolled onto my back somehow and ended up with the bike on top of me, i got up n rode to the end of trail and checked the phone, everything was awsome ..sweet as so now i know from now on to have it in my camel back cause i was gonna put it in my pocket  lol Lucky i didnt..saved my phone.. Camel backs are heaps padded, Plus the 2 litre of water when i rolled on my back helped heaps too..

A short water bottle will hold phone+tools+ patch kit. Put the bottle in the bottle cage (if you have one) and keep the hydration pack for water and tubes. You can modify a neoprene stubby holder to fit inside the bottle for padding.

The neoprene stubby holders are also good for digital cameras and ipods.

Ive always kep wallet in back pocket, and phone in front ( I have a habbit of landing on my head and getting concussion, and if I can't remember who I am or something I have my Id in there ;)
I once landed on my phone (some nokia can't remember what model at the moment), I still have a bruise there from 6 months ago, but the phone is fine :D

If I had a camelback or something Id use that though ( I have a cheapy one but yeah, never really use it, I suppose I should)

Youd be suprised how good the real "camelback" brand are, ive got a 2 litre and then the bag on that also, with everything inside it plus a full camel it not heavy at all when im doing downhill..just strap it on and its a perfect hug on ur back, When i stacked yesterday and rolled on my back, not only was it padded but the camel bag itself with the water in it withheld my weight (87KG) ontop it didnt burst at all, its seriously perfect, if you can get over the $150 price tag its seriously worth getting a decent one as it will protect your gear regardless of conditions :D

I generally keep my mobile phone in my mug/cup holder which is mounted to my handelbars so i can take calls while downhilling or if the cup holder is occupied with a cool tasty beverage i put the mob's on my "in dash"entertainment system

Phone in pockets for short ride without a bag. front right pocket for those who wanna know. After stacking on it a few times is still in working condition. usually your soft leg muscles act as a good cushion.

On long rides, phone is in camelback along with all the goodies. Stacking ain't what worries me, it's falling into creeks. No matter where you put phone, it'll be f!@#ed, i know from self experience. If you know your gunna cross water along your ride, put it into a glad bag.

Maybe those shock, dust and waterproof phones are the way to go if you like to eat dirt a lot.

The neoprene in the bottle is something i;ve never neard of but sure will try out.

Heres an idea for your phones, When working as a guide we always keep our phones in pelican cases, which are shock, water, and crash proof. Their super tough and they come in some pretty compact sizes. eg ones which could fit in a drink bottle like holder (some handy work would be needed) but you would be sure you wouldnt break it. But personally i got the cheap as CDMA phone, nokia, its tough as!

Tape it to the side of your head!

Honestly though, your in the bush. There is no need to be calling and recieving texts and calls, i thought thats the whole point of going for a ride, to get away from that stuff.
If you hurt yourself, man up and walk out.
