yeh im just having a look around for some new
riding shoes at the moment. Previously i have had
2 pairs of Orchids and they seem to wear out
quickly.
I was just wondering what brand or make of shoes
was hard wearing and grippy for BMX?
I believe etnies make signature shoes for ruben alcantara, and a couple of other good riders. Sound good, but I haven't tried them. I have DC's.

I just ride with any cheap skate shoes from DFO, they last me about a year and only cost about 50 dollars, currently i have converse skate slams and they are great.
Previously i had vans and i rode with them for a year and yes they are very dead.....holes everywhere.

yeh red! get the vans ryan guettler signature shoes
I'm aware of this post being a gravedig...
I'm brakeless and my Orchid Lurkers have worn through badly on the left shoe from putting my foot in the tyre when commuting/stopping for a skater etc...
There is a massive hole in them. I want to get some new shoes, so I thought I'd ask: which are the TOUGHEST soled bmx (or skating i guess) shoes?
Thanks in advance and sorry for the dig..

i wear some Etnies shoes i got from City Beach...they are average shoes that cost me about 100-120 bux
i have been running brakeless for about 2 months and they have only lost about 1-2mm of sole
and they look sexy

ive had etnies roscoes (taj mihelisch sig shoes) and currenty using Vans whips ( ryan guettler sig) .. they both seem pretty dam decent.. and the vnas are running pretty good atm, although the etnies felt alot stiffer and stronger.... but the vans seem to be wearing better then the etnies. (i run brakeless btw)
so i guess the moral is etnies are abit stiffer and seem more steady while the vans last longer

I don't think i could beat my Lotek Throwbacks. Awesome sole, still almost completely intact after 7Months, including so much riding and casual use, plus they have fantastic ankle support. only problem i've had is tearing the side on my brakepad stalks which have now been cut down, thats hardly a fault with the shoe. Loteks also retail for $99 which is significantly cheaper than skate alternatives unless on sale.

I had an old pair of lotek deltas for a year and got the throw backs because the sole wore down too much and all the padding was gone so it was time for a new pair
I now have throwbacks as well,I bought them 2 months ago and my sole is ripped apart a fair bit and the bottom of the sole is peeling on my right side i think mainly because thats the foot i catch whips with and that foot always lands sideways or into the sprocket.my feel are also moving on the pedals as well when i do tables and turn downs sometimes.I also have the problem with my brake pad posts ripping up the edges but i got new pads that don't stick out as much.yes i would buy them again because they have good ankle support and are soo comfortable but if they had a tuffer sole i would say they are the best shoes i have owned.

Running brakeless is going to ruin your shoes, you cant really get past that. ive worn a few different pairs of shoes this year, so we'll have a bit of a run down
lotek delta - the shoe itself is too 'fat' for my liking, but the plus for this is it provided good ankle protection. The sole was quite thick and stiff, but did lose its stiffness fairly quickly. i get sore feet riding in these for anymore than an hour now, but they were great for the first 2 months i rode in them. the sole is fairly worn from braking, but didnt wear as quick as other shoes i have worn. the sole wasnt as grippy as other shoes when it started to wear either, especially if there is a bit of water in the mix.
Nike Dunk - sole isnt grippy enough for my liking, it also wore down very quickly. the upper held up nicely and the SB insoles are very comfortable except they are quite flat. not enough arch support. i didnt wear these for very long so i cant tell you how they lasted.
vans - classics/eras/slip ons. all these shoes fall into the same category because they all have the same sole and all fit the same. the waffle grip sole is AMAZING. so so grippy. due to it being a gum sole it wears fairly quick, but remains grippy throughout. the upper on these shoes is not supportive at all, so dont get them if you have bad ankles. i personally like how 'minimal' the upper is, my ankles are fine and i like a real slim shoe. after a good month or so the sole will be quite flexible, but these dont tend to hurt my feet like the lotek do and i dont get sore arches like i do in dunks.
Im currently wearing Lakai select carroll hi's, which i like for a few reasons. first they have a very similar sole to the vans so they grip well and are thin with good pedal feel. they are also fairly slim so they dont look and feel fat. as they are hi's they provide a bit of support for ankles. i dont tie them all the way up, so its more just support for your ankles so you dont get bruises from your cranks. the rubber on the sole is a tad soft so i dont think they will last too long, but im happy with them. some might find hte sole a tad flexy, but they dont hurt my feet so its all good.
my perfect shoe would be something very slim, maybe suede or leather. a mid shoe to provide a bit of ankle protection. vans waffle grip for....grip, still real thin for good pedal feel, but a bit stiffer so they dont flex as much.

i ride with dc's and i have no problems with them
Just get any skate shoes that don't have the foam above the sole. (hard to explain) Oh, and buy them with hader rubber soles over softer.
