for those of you who want a really surreal punk experience try and get hold of some old shonen knife stuff. they are this weird ass japanese female punk thrash group. they do all sorts of music but the punk stuff is great (not sure but i think they were the girl group in the resteraunt in kill bill. just strange, strange people...). also look around for jack off jill's early stuff.
guys, you forgot the mother of punk.....AVRIL :lol:
nah just kiddin.
Good 'ol josh named pretty much every decent punk outfit there is, can we move onto ska? :lol:
Bad Religion
Operation Ivy
NOFX
No Fun At All
Rancid
Does anyone have the album 'land of the long white shaft' by Gilgamesh?
I have been looking for it for about 10 years, only 500 copies pressed, i don't care if i get original or not anymore, just want the album. Will pay!!
(not sure but i think they were the girl group in the resteraunt in kill bill. just strange, strange people...).
that band in Kill Bill was "the 5678's", japanese female rockabilly. like a cross between shonen knife & the cramps

1. atm, Poison the Well
2. Hatebreed
3. The Dillinger Escape Plan
4. Planes Mistaken For Stars
5. Blood for Blood.
edited to say I like the point where the boundary between punk and metal gets blurry. I admit to liking some emocore punk. I am not a huge fan of bands still doing power chord punk, it is good but it's kinda already been done a million trillion times and there's only so much you can do with power chords before everything sounds deruvative.
I refuse to get into a debate over the definition of punk.

Not punk but a hell of a lot closer than some of the modern crap.
I’m not really a fan of saying who is the best but here is a kind of top 5 (or however many I end up with)
(in no particular order)
* Love like... electrocution
* Circle takes the Square
* The Stockholm Syndrome
* Give up the Ghost (formally American Nightmare - Touring in January GO AND SEE THEM - ill put up the dates is anyone wants)

* Converge
Could list more but can’t be bothered.
Oh and cant go past Brand New for the angriest POP punk ever.
Enjoy.

1. The Clash
2. Rancid
3. Bodyjar
... I think I'm over punk a bit.
Still, went to Bodyjar last week and they ROCKED.
Antiskeptic were great in support too - I only noticed that a good voice matters in a punk band when the previous band were good, with a shit singer (IMO).
Other punk bands:
Offspring (I know they're super-commercial but check out Ignition, it's a top album), Area 7, ahh can't be bothered to think.

Yeah, they played some songs on the J's when Tarantino was in, funny stuff.
Oh, and maybe I'm thinking of the wrong band, but I'd hardly call Seraph's Coal punk!

Just except the fact that everyone else likes different music. Punk bands are talented in differented ways compared to Nirvana or any other band in a different music genre for christs sake.
In other words, your a dipshit.

Settle, boy. I was just stirring, a bit. Cream, REM, Nirvana, (shit, even the Eagles and maybe America but I know ZERO about them) have made a great contributions to music, but posting them in a thread about PUNK BANDS was just begging to be shot down. IMO it's mostly the sort of stuff your dad/grandad would listen to (even for someone in their 30s like me)
As for Nirvana, they were good and most importantly were one of a few bands that were in at the start of the whole "Seattle sound" thing, got noticed and got popular. AND they picked up on, or created, the mood of a generation with their music.
I just dislike the fact that they seem to have become untouchable rock gods simply because the lead singer happened to choose to opt out of life early, rather than take on life.

Cant agree more, most of the bands in people list imho are not what i would call punk. Listen to early punk and you realise that punk was slighly progessive, and heavly influenced (esp English punk) by dub, reage and ska music. It was political and raw unlike most punk now, which much of it sounds the same and is overproduced. Not one person mentioned the first ever punk band The Saints and they are Australian. :cry:

english punk was influenced by reggae ska etc, but american punk wasn't. The first american punk bands such as Ramones, Television, Corpse Grinders & New York Dolls were going against the 'Progressive rock" that was prevalent at the time. The Ramones have even said they wanted to sound like the Bay City Rollers!!!!! Future american punk bands have these guys as influences, so thats is why there is such a difference between UK & USA punk, even today. Listen to Snuff, a fantastic newish english punkrock band and you hear the ska & reggae influences.
As for Sex Pistols, i was being born when there album came out but i saw them a couple of years ago & they sucked so much ass!!! But the saints are great, "stranded" is one good song :)
