Well it was a very tight one. Bob Marshall was only 900 odd votes from upsetting the applecart. Every vote definately counted with some MTB supporters getting in by as little as 6 votes! A big thank you to everyone who helped, whether you spread the word or voted as you can see there is now only one person who opposed the MTB plan still on council, but some new faces may throw some new challenges.
On an aside. Zane Young got in. He confessed to having ridden his MTB in Shepherds hill.
A times are a' changing!

Mayor
Returning Mayor Ivan Brooks beat Bob Marshall by 900 odd votes to retain the position. With approx. 14,000 votes that’s pretty close. Ivan Brooks stated publicly his support for MTBing during the campaign and on posters so this result is great.
Babbage Ward
Diana Gibbs Ludbrook: I didn’t contact her pre election so a dark horse. Beat Chris Gellie by 60 votes (Chris supported MTBing but found the meeting very tiring… zzzz ;) )
Richard Warran: Great to see Richard back, he support MTBing and spoke in it’s favour.
Boorman Ward
Michael Picton: Another supporter of MTBing had a strong win.
Judith Weaver: Sat on the fence about the issue and would like to find out more, kept referring Skateboarders but at the same time did admit she didn’t know much about the issue but would love to find out more and weigh it up with environment concerns, if she was elected. Definitely one to invite out to Eagle on some MTB club days and expose her to what MTBing is.
Gault Ward
Grant Hudson. Opposed the MTB plan, but in a ward with only 3 contesting he got in by a very comfortable margin. Grants opposition to the plan was more funding based if I understood his argument correctly. I hope with the backing of the state government grant that his concerns have been addressed. One to watch.
Stephen Fisher: Also one the Gault ward and another person who voted to support MTBing.
Overeton Ward
John Lindell Sanderson: Returned his position. He also voted to support the MTB plan.
Zane Young: Got in! An actual rider who confessed to having ridden up around Shepherds Hill, a younger council member that can only be considered a positive thing for MTBing!
Park Ward
Colin Campbell: Returned, also voted to support the MTB plan.
Mark Ward: I had a good chat and he stressed common sense and anything that got people out and enjoying Mitcham.
Craigburn Ward
Ian Perry: Son was instrumental in some BMX advocacy with Mitcham back in the day. Naturally has concerns about the environment but supports things that gets kids out and exercising. Sounds good!
Elaine Grimm: Returned, voted to support the MTB plan.
Heather Chennell: Heather Chennell: Emailed me personally to say: There is an election for three positions and I am writing this to seek the support of mountain bike riders, their families and friends who are eligilble to vote in the Craigburn Ward.
As you know I support the need for bike riders to pursue their sport and recreation in the local community together with developing skills important in all facets of their daily lives.
Heather voted for the establishment of legal MTB trails.
