View Full Version : cannibalism
I was just doing some research for a this story at work. Just want to know thoughts.
a german man, Armin Miewes, advertised on the internet for a 'well-built young man who would like to be eaten'. 200 people answered this call & Miewes chose 43 year old Bernd Jurgan Brande.
Miewes cut off Brande's penis, flambayed it, & they both ate it. this event was captured on video. Miewes then killed Brande, and ate himover a period of time, also videoing the entire event.
Brande consented to his murder & being eaten, he knew what was going to happen, and there is no history of mental illness in his life.
There are no laws in germany outlawing cannibalism, & because Brande consented to his death, it technically isn't murder.
The prosecution says that any man who consents to eating himself, then being killed cannnot be taken seriously, so consent is irrelevent, but there is a chance Miewes will get off scot free.
Personally, It doesn't seem like Miewes is a bad man, just someone with wierd fetishes. No one was hurt, except someone who wanted to be. Miewes has also been married & has kids, so he can obviously control his urges, & is not just going to go on a cannibalistic rampage.
I guess i am saying that i don't think he has done anything wrong, but it feels strange admitting that seeing as he just killed & ate someone. :?

cannabalism is socially unacceptable. Obviously according to the word of the law it is legal but is it legal in the spirit of the law?!
Also, it is just wrong. Even if murder was legal it still doesn't make it right.

believe it or not turley, cannibalism isn't as socialy unacceptable as you might think.
if you are part of any catholic or christian sect that uses the wine and bread routine, you are taking part in ritual cannibalism. "take of this bread and eat, for it is my body", "take of this wine and drink, for it is my blood".anyone remember that bit? if you celebrate the host, you are basicaly commiting ritual cannibalism.
also remember that there are many cases in history of people resorting to cannibalism to survive; the donner party, alferd packer, flight 134, and many many more.
you also have groups (mostly in south america and some of the south seas islands) who still practise cannibalism as a method of honouring enemies and great leaders. parts of the body, primarily the heart and liver usualy, are removed and eaten by the tribe/group to ensure the strength and wisdom of the person is carried on to the rest of the tribe.
and last but in no way least, one of my personal favs is the catholic group in argentina who every 4 years have a volunteer to do the sacraficial host for real. he is crucified, then eaten by the rest of the sect. it's voluntary, a well founded religious rite, and the authorities aren't allowed to stop it. yay for freedom of religion.
so anyway, if both people involved in the incident consented, and there were no "innocent bystanders", then let have their fun. it's not really any more disgusting or wrong than eating beef.....
Hey, don't mock it till you try it.
oh and btw anyone wanna volenteer to be eaten by me? :)
but seriously that is pretty weird.
What if the guy who volunteered to be eaten was suidicidal and used Mr. Cannibal's (I can't be bothered going to the top of the page to look at names) proposition to end his life and Mr. Cannibal is convicted of assisting suicide if that is a crime.

Well said Grandpa, i totally agree, if both of the guys decided they wanted to do that an no one else was involved let them do whatever they want.
In closing.

And yes, that IS strange, but like Lupine said, it's only unacceptable by western standards. Who are we to judge? Although the whole idea to me personnally is just scary in so many ways...

it isnt socially acceptable in our more popular western culture, there are, of corse some ahh... acceptions.. to the rule, and it makes me feel sick, really sick,
That makes me feel sick. But then again so does your avatar RCOH.
Why does my Avatar make you sick?
The 'other' red meat......
Well actually, isn't human meat white?
I know someone that refuses to eat pork because it's too similar to human flesh... weird... I don't want to know how he came to that conclusion.
lol i rekon human flesh would be tasty as..
Nah, too tough.
well, it depends...
my ex gf would've been alright, she was chinese so had a nice clean diet (grain fed :P), and was inactive and had a bit of excess body fat, so her flesh would've been really tender and juicy.
Hmm.
sounds good rik...where she live, ill bring the tomato sauce

ok, did a little hunting around and found some basic facts for pepoel to worry about.
the correct term is anthropophagy.
apparantly human flesh is extremly tasty.some races/cultures more so than others. the comment made before about the chinese girlfreind is at least partialy correct.
people from rural china, merchants not farmers, are supposed to be some of the best to eat due to the diet, climate, and amount of exersize.
sopposedly american, british, australian, canadian, western european are the least tasty, for the same reasons.
in the autum of 1874 alferd packer and 5 companions thought they could make it over the rockies before the snow came.
they were wrong. in the spring alferd came back, but none of the others were ever seen again. of course there were any number of romours flying around and in due course he was arrested, tried and convicted of canablism. the judge made the following statement at the sentencing "there were 7 democrates in hinsdale county, and you ate 5 of them, god damn you!"
best of all the students at the university of colorado named the dining hall after him. the alferd packer memorial hall. gotta love that one.
the doctrine of transubstantiation states that the wine and bread of the eucharist actualy become the flesh and blood of christ when consumed during communion. a preist once ut this to the test in conneticut by dipping the host in cyanide, and lacing the wine with strychnine. unfortunatly 14 people died. official church response was that the host was desecrated and so wasn't able to be transubstantiated.
personaly i prefer the ancient aztec rites. the actual sacrifice and consumption of human flesh. the spaniards, led by cortez, were shocked to discover that the aztecs were doing this 15000 times per year, and conquest ensued (nothing to do withthe large amount of gold laying around at all  ) of course, the spaniards, being good, devout catholics, converted the aztec to the one true religion, and so you got back to "eat of this, it is my flesh". you'd think they would have just cut out the middle man and gone back to ritual sacrifice.....
for more fun facts on this subject i refer you to the paradox press publication "the big book of death". it comes with cool pictures, and is available as a comic version as well.
have fun.
i can't decide wether all that lupine was interesting or disturbing...

Blasphemy, tomato sauce is horrid stuff... for human flesh I'd probably go for a mustard-based gravy, or maybe apple sauce.
Sometimes called 'long pig' in, I think, PNG.
yes it is - because it has the same texture as pork/ham (or so I've been told - I've eaten some strange things in my time but as yet not human flesh)

Anyone watching the Simpsons right now?
Edit: For those that missed it, Sydney got the Halloween ep. Where the school teachers, encouraged by a lack of funding and overcrowded classrooms, started eating the children.

Whoa... that's some pretty gnarly stuff right there. Quite an example of the modern day paradox that some call 'freedom'.
Operation Mindfuck is one thing, lupine128, but I'm still not sure that 'it's not really any more disgusting or wrong than eating beef'. You definitely made some valid points, but until you provide some better details on marination I'm not quite convinced.

lol scary bastard,
as if we wont start eating each other, what will maccas do when cows become extinct?
A London-based hotel worker has told a German court how he was chained to a bed by a self-confessed cannibal and had his body marked out for butchery before changing his mind and being released.
Dirk Moeller, 27, a conference organiser for an international chain, described his encounter with Armin Meiwes, 42, who is on trial in Kassel for killing and eating a man.
Mr Moeller and Meiwes, a computer expert, met on the internet and confessed their cannibalistic tendencies to each other in regular emails, court sources said after the hearing in Kassel on Monday. The trial is in camera.
"He wanted to be sentenced to death," Meiwes had told the three judges earlier. "So I printed out a death sentence for him."
They met at a hotel two years ago, months after Meiwes killed and ate 43-year-old Bernd Juergen Brandes at his house in Rothenburg, after advertising for willing victims on the internet. He videotaped the act.
Meiwes argues that Mr Brandes was a willing victim.
Meiwes said Mr Moeller "wanted to be chained to the bed" at which point he stuck pins in his body, marking out his liver, kidney and other organs. They had agreed these were to be cut out for consumption.
Meiwes had shown the hotel worker a video of a previous would-be victim, Joerg Bose, whom he had strung up in a slaughter parlour at his house.
At that point Mr Moeller got cold feet, and, Meiwes's lawyer said, "decided the fantasy was enough, reality too much". Realising Mr Moeller's reluctance, Meiwes backed down from killing him.
Mr Bose was one of several would-be victims. The 34-year-old German cook is reported to have told the court - also in camera - that he had lost the courage to be cannibalised, despite agreeing to the act.
Meiwes's lawyer said Mr Bose confirmed Meiwes's previous testimony, according to which the cook was "strung up" on a pulley before being taken down because he felt queasy.
"I lifted him down," Meiwes said. "His ankles hurt. We tried again. I put on my steel-capped boots and taped it on video."
The lawyer stressed that Meiwes had not forced any of his victims, an argument he hopes will help his client escape a murder conviction.
The trial continues.
