Does anyone know if theres a device or something to connect an mp3 player to speakers with those non plug wires?( The bronze colored ones) I really want to connect an mp3 player up to some really decent speakers but cant cos an mp3 player doesnt have holes for the wirey things. Is there a little device or something that can be put into the headphone output which has holes for the wirey things?

Thanks

Its called an amplifier!

As in the main bit (sometimes incorporates a tuner) of a component hi-fi. Well thats how i would go about it any way!

you can get cables from Dick smith or Tandy or Jcar that go from headphone to rca. Plug the rca into an amplifier, probably the aux channel or cd channel, then your MP3 player will work

I dont think you can run a MP3 player straight to speakers, there is not enough power in the players to drive the speakers

there you go... a more coherent responce. The only speakers you could do it with are speakers designed for PC's that come with a built in pre-amp(?)! If you have an older amp you will find that it has to be the aux (or cd) as the phono is analogue (i think). the amp i'm using at the moment is big. i picked it up second hand (can't remeber where from but it was well under $100) and it is powerful enough (with big old speakers) to throw huge house parties! ie. lots of neighbourly complaints. the rca plugs in dumbass (laymans?) terms are the two red and white plugs.

ok in this example its red and black, but you get the idea!

Edit: The other plug (on the other end) is a 3.5mm stereo jack. Its the plug you will have on your mp3 player, for the headphones. The price was $13.87 aud.

The phono is the only pre-amp input that you'll have.

DO NOT USE A PRE AMP INPUT!

Use a CD or AUX input, these are not pre-amp, they're "line" inputs. The output from an MP3 player is already amplified, just not enough. If you run one of these through a pre-amp input you WILL blow the amplifier.

Everything else these guys have said is correct.

hey nickon, i plug my discman into the phono inputs of an old sansui amp that i have here, if i keep the discman turned right down the amp seems to be fine, is this wise?

i just found out fro the guys at apple that you can get a connector that you plug into the headphone jack which youcan connect speakers directly to. This sounds great but i was advised to get an ipod dock and have that hooked up to an amp and play the ipod through and amp so your not using the ipods volume control. This seems better.

Correct me if im wrong

depends what speakers i guess: little computer speakers would probably be alright to plug staight into, but anything bigger i would definately use an amplifier, sound quality will be so much better.

also look at the inputs for speaker cable at the back of the speakers. some take banana clips ( the screw in kind) others you have to to strip the cable and insert it into a port, others can be modded to take rca plugs.

Still the best bet is to use an amplifier, doesn't have to be a brand new one, i used a early 70's amp for about 3 years, had great sound for everything.

yeah the connector allows you to connect the cables you have to strip straight to the ipod.

Ive got an old NAD amp so ill proberbly try and use that
