UMF bikes

Hey,
have any of you heard of umf bikes before?

I saw an 05 and 06 hardy 2 disc dirt jumper bikes at the lbs today and they looked pretty good and flickable in 14.5". So i thought id have a look at their website and their hardtail and free ride bikes dont look too bad at all really and spec wise arent too bad either.

from what i recall the umf hardys, were meridas dirt jump bikes, i recall seeing them in there catalogues

maybe not, i remeber they were called hardy to but, so not exactly sure

UMF does stand for United Merida Freeriders so yeah you are probably right. This name might be for their more "aggressive" bike range:confused: as merida dont seem to have any freeride/dj bikes in their 07 range.

id say theyve probably split them up so as not to have them closely related, some people are pretty picky about those kinds of things..........

only ever saw one in the flesh, not a huge fan, id say there a tad over priced for what they are (dunno if thats changed since then but)

there xc bike are top quality though.

Well the 05 and 06 hardy 2 discs were going for $989 at my lbs. Pretty much the same price as an stp2 with similar spec. But the 07 is a little different to the 06 and 05 though.

I dont really know, i only know the hardy disc 2 as my lbs had 2 in stock. But i could ask about the rrp of others if you like??

UMF are avaliable in OZ, through Dean Woods [http://www.deanwoods.com.au/store/category369_1.htm] or Advance Traders [http://www.advancetraders.com.au/products.php?action=showProducts&sub=168&cat=34]. They may be elsewhere too, these are purely the online ones i've found.

BTW I'm not associated with these shops nor trying to give them business, just being informative as i investigated UMF a little while back myself out of curiosity. Not sure how they ride as a bike, nor on the quality of them.

I ride a Hardy 2 Disc.

Picked it up through some friends for a little under wholesale. Don't know how that worked out, but they're a great bike. Tough as, never had a problem, while my mate who got an stp2 at the same time has had a few.

Good parts, I like the headset and bars. 8" Hayes MX discs stop well, but I've had a few problems calibrating them, so I just live with a bit of rub now.

Stock DJ Comp forks- 100mm.

Short wheelbase. I ride a 16.5" inch frame and it's great. I don't dirt jump, but it handles trails alright.

Probably too good for me, but I got it cheap, haven't had to replace anything and love riding it. Maybe a little overpriced (They recommended $1300 or so on the website), but other than that- top bike.

The only problem is I look like a fool at the LBS when it goes in for servicing and they ask what brand it is. UMF?

I am going to ask that next time im down there. I dont mind the look of them either. But ive got to build up my jackal first:) . Ill post up the price when the temp is not at 38deg so i can get down there.

$990 sounds more reasonable. I paid $700, just under the wholesale price. Receipt and everything is here (somewhere)
