hay man,
pick a bike that u feel comfortable on, u like the look of, ect ect.
and have a look around on farkin or e-bay or the trading post even for 2nd hand bikes, you can get some real good buys from blokes that have looked after there bikes and have done a littel extra to do it up. these bikes are much cheaper then a brand new stock rig.
but what ever u like and feel good on, buy it.

You could also have a search as this topic has been covered over so many times. But yeah, have a look around the for sale threads, you'll get alot more bang for your buck.

I would say go the STP2, i ride one and it's fricken awesome!! straight out of the shop, i went and rode some Djs, then some DH, and it just felt perfect through all of it. Another possibility could be the Mongoose Thunderball, costs a bit more but it's a damn sweet bike.

I gotta say, you probably can't go wrong with an STP2. It has a lot of scope for upgrades and stuff, seeing as the STP frame is the same on all the STP bikes, so you could take an STP2 and put all the same parts on it as the flagship STP Zero, and it would be exactly the same bike, apart from the paint job.
Then again, the GT Chucker 2.0 is 370 GBP (about $900), but the level of spec you get wouldn't show it. However, the GT 'triple triangle' layout is a tried and tested design. Again, a lot of scope for upgrades.
Really, it just becomes a question of what you want, just how much you want to spend and (most important) which one feels right for you. Go and test ride all of them before choosing.
That said, just 'cause you've got a grand in the bank now doesn't mean that you have to spend it now. You could save for a little longer and buy something a bit better. I think something like a Norco 125 would set you back $1300, so you can sort of see that you needn't limit yourself to just $1000, when just a little more can get you something a hell of a lot better.

Well if your on a tight budget maybe buy something second hand thats good?
Dont buy a GT Chucker ther shit my mate. I know countless peoples who have had thme and said ther cool 1st day round thne whne u go djing it compltely buckles on ya and all dis other shit..Cross out da GT chucker.
Just buy a good second hand bike. and service it.
Wut r u mainly using it for?

whatever you do dont get a gt chucker
i have one and its shit or it was
i have replaced everthing but the cranks and frame
it alright now but i have spent shitloads on it and gone through 2 bb in a year
just stay away from them there bad news
little did i no as it was my first proper bike and it looked cool at the time
best bet is the stp
hope it helps steve:)
I really don't want a second hand, mostly because i don't know how they have been treated... If the guy is pro he would thrash it still, and if he was a moron he wouldn't keep it in good nick.
I don't wanna spend a whole lot, im not pro or anything i just do like 1m dropoffs on my 20" dimondback bmx.
Im goin monday mornin to see all the bikes but i need a rough idea before i go and you guys have filled me out nicely, Ty :D
I really like the look of the Norco Havoc, its about 750 and seems real nice, i can rip off the crap v's and replace em with some hydro disks, should be sweet :D
Except i mostly want a study frame so i can just replace the parts as i get a part time job and just progress really.
I just don't wanna spend all my cash n that cause i aint pro (But plan to be :D)
But yeah, i guess it does depend on me and what im willing to spend.
But i think ill goto a second hand place just to see some second hand bikes cause who knows, i could get a pretty sweet deal.
I mostly wanna do some massive drop offs, big air, and possibly some freeride, depends what i find the most fun.
I would only consider a stp2 if it was under 750, so prolly a 06.
But then again who doesn't have a stp?

if you want a sturdy, beefy frame, go for the Norco, if you want somethign more exclusive for DJ or street, go the stp or something second hand.

hey dude look into the norco range..u can pick 1 up for under $1000 easy and they are bloody great bikes..im buying a 06 norco one25 for $1100...cant wait :D
GT CHUCKERS SUCK BUT...THEY EAT WAFFLES
Yeah, but aint the norco havoc a pure Dj or is it a mix between Dj and Hardtail like the chucker.
Well, what the hell is Adventure X, LOL

haha yer..
you can get a brand new 07 norco ryde for $1100....and thats the retail..
i can pick 1 up for $900
the wolverine and havoc r also like only 700...
I say go the ryde
Well i have to say the 07 specialized P.1 looks real neat thats if you dont mind ss i think its about $1000 and if you really want gears then fork out another $100 and buy the P.2 cr-mo.:D
i think you should really spend some more money, oh if you can do a i meter drop on a bmx you can do bigger on a 26inch. just save up for something better, i had the same mentality when i started out, but now i feel like a dik. i have spent almost 1k just making the bike better. The STP's are really nice infact i might be putting the stp0 on layby this afternoon. If im not convincing you, the stp2 would be the best choice to my opinion, since the spec is good for a grand. but the 1 has a fare better spec and its only $500 more.
:D
i say stp2, get the smaller frame (the 13.5 size) if you plan on dj like you said. You should think about getting better brakes for it at a later time. Good luck.
