that would be a damn fine bike with a new derailure and lighter wheel. Mag 30's are a bit of an overkill, 721's on ringles would be shmick. But its looking great so far.

yeah i know, when i get a DH bike in the near future im planing to do a wheel swap and change a few things over. mag 30's are a bit over kill but that was plan along when i got them. will keep progress posted

yeah toddi from crime, is getting me a truvative 1 in for the mean time, should hopefully be getting it tomorrow. other then that its all ready to go, just adjust the gears, make sure everythings tight and i should be out dirt jumping to break it in.
might have to give chucky a call and see if i can get in to the 4X track for a few runs on the weekend

Your thread title suggests that you are planning on doing some DH on it....i have heard that being such a lightweight race frame, they have a shortish lifespan. I'd think that doing DH on it would drastically reduce that lifespan.
Thats just what i've read in online reviews though, it may be different in reality. Let us know how its goes.

i was told the frame will be suitable for DH, just the geo might be a bit weird. i know for a fact i wont be doing anything stupid like 12ft drops and sh*t like that, i still have to a feel confident with my leg which i broke in april. im planning to get a mongoose black diamond 3 in the near future for all my DH needs and then use the GT only for 4X racing and dirt jumping purposees. once i get that things will change like the rims will be swapped as well as a few other things.
at the moment im still waiting for the BB to come in, so ive just dummied up the old 1 in hope to get the gears all working properly (what a head f**k)

well its complete...
my lopes is all finished and ready to ride.
the new BB came in and that feels so nice no creaking or anything. i had to make a few adjustments with a couple of things. ie move the seat forward, drop the bars down 10mm (which has made the biggest difference to steering)
i havent had a chance to race it yet but im deffinately looking forward to it, so easy to mannual and just feels quicker getting off the line the my old DBR even though the running gear is essintially the same. dirt jumping though is totaly different, it feels so manouverable in the air but a little arse end heavy (probably cause the wheels)
with the mag 30's, truvative cranks, pikes and truvative bar and stem the whole bike weighs in at 16KGs, which is expected.
some weight reduction is on the the cards just not yet.

frames can vary between 500 - 800 depending if you can find them.
just wondering if any 1 has any ideas how to set the bike up so it dont feel arse heavy when i jump.
Callan.
03-12-2006, 04:38 PM
do you mean heavy? or heavy to the rear-asin arse heavy?
sit_still
03-12-2006, 06:32 PM
when i say arse end heavy im relating to when ever i jump the arse wants to drop so i land back wheel first, on flat grond its ok but when when its on a landing its a bad thing, its not my jumping style cause i can hop on a mates bike do the exact same jump and land it perfectly. its probably just the short rear stays im not use to, but any ideas will be great

riding it like lopes, ummmm maybe not, crashing like lopes yep thats a given (if he does crash).
shes all sweet now, changed a few things, dropped about 3kgs off the weight, comes in at about 12.5 - 13kgs
have adapted to the geo, now and feel heaps more comfortable.
its weird going riding the faith to the GT, GT feels so light after moving around 20kgs

Sweet rides! Just about to buy a Faith and wanted your opinion on what you thought of the bike? In my opinion they are awesome value for the money but have never actually riden one off road only had a roll around at the bike shop.

in stock form they are excelent to ride, all ive done is cut the seat post, change the wheels, and set the suspension up to my liking. other then that havent changed a thing.
as you can see ive hit road gaps, drops, jumps, rock gardens and the bike has handled the lot with no dramas, i have found out though that the bike feels very confident when you stay off the brakes or pedal through rough sections. the only thing i would suggest changing is the pedals they are crap and have no grip other then that they are excellent bang for buck, couldnt of got a better 1st dual suspension bike IMO

lighter then the stock rims oh god no, if you want to plough through anything jump big give your wheels nothing but crap, then i go for it but your probably better off with MTX's or something.
rims in red i would have to say syncros if you can afford it, or just find a rim you like strip it down and paint it.

ok since busting my collar bone ive been doing some upgrading and rebuilding, funny how many people do this in similar circumstances:p
on the GT ive fully rebuilt the bike from frame up, re greased every bearing, cleaned every part and bought a few goodies for it. i decided i want to take the build from less of a pure 4x bike to more of a all round have fun hard tail. ie DJ, DH, all mountain. ive fixed the mrp guide so im running both external and internal guides, am now running a 36T chain ring, bought a set of saint cranks which im extremely happy with, durace 9 speed casset 12 - 27T, new X9 shifter and med cage derailleur, SRAM PC971 w/power link (great device) and new lopes bling bling and high roller tires.
im yet to ride as i still havent got any brakes on it. im probably going to swap the hayes from my faith on to it.
on the faith side of things its been giving a new less on life, i got rid of the front derailleur and whacked on a E13 SRS with a white bashie (bling) and put a 38T ring on. then just to change things a little i thought about changing the colour of the frame, so out came the photo shop. i decided on Yellow just to be different.
that paint your own frame mega thread is great and so help full. i stripped all the paint off and gave the frame the once over with some 600 paper even though it didn't need it. a nice even coat of etch primer and the bike was looking good already. i was able to find some plasti-kote slicker yellow for $11 a can and began spraying. all i can say is im really liking the new colour and it suit the faith frame so nice.
ive been playing with other options like yellow frame, blue swing arm and black forks, looks so 90's i love it. but ill probably end up painting the swing arm and lowers of my new forks when i get them yellow as well.
ill still probably keep the mag 30s the colour brakes things up a little, and im still deciding if i want to go juicy 7's or codes and marzocchi 66 SL ATA or totem solo air's.
let me know what ya think

there where to many different colourations and blemishes on the bare metal and it didnt look as good as it does in the photo thats why i painted it, i thought about white but its yellow is different.
still got the blue swing arm for now, its got a few scratches form crashes and bales so i might paint it either yellow of black. i did have the links flipped and it gave a very slight different feel in the head angle but as for cornering and stuff like that i cant really say.

well its all finished and i must say it looks great, however i am very disappointed in the plastikote paint used. even after allowing it to dry for almost 3weeks in sunlight it still is soft so it dents and chips very easily, you can tap any where on the frame with your finger and your nail will leave an imprint in the frame.
ill prob only keep the bike for another few months - a year then upgrade to something more all mountain. still im happy with the look of the finished product and am looking forward to riding again its been to long. pics below
Nice bike, all you need to finish it off is to take some pics in bowlo's garden. Looks nice, though I think some sort of pattern would have looked nicer rather than the plain "bigbird" look.

a few pics of the GT after a day at eagle park it rides so nice with all the new crap how ever im contemplating splitting it as we have no where to race 4X in SA.
punched out a few shuttle runs at fox creek on the weekend just gone and was so good to get back out riding after a 3 month break. thought the fear would keep me a bit shy and cautious but nope, one flat out run with chucky behind me pushing me all the way and everything was forgotten (cheers dude).
its good to be back on the faith and the juicy 7's feel so good. next on the list will be a set of tripples either 07 boxxer teams or 888 rc2x va see what happens.
did some photoshop pics with each fork for an idea

got my new forks during the week 07 888 rc2x va, and all i can say is WOW after a good play with the settings and a day of shuttles up at fox creek i am left wondering why i didnt get them sooner. The feel over rocky or rough terrain is awesome and there just as nice over smoother flatter surfaces as well. i have to say i love the look of the triples on the faith as well it just completes the whole bike.

Looking sweet! How much extra weight did the triples add?
sit_still
17-09-2007, 12:12 PM
if i remember correctly apporx 100 grams, triples where 3.3kg and the 66's were 3.2, but considering i have no spaces and an alloy steerer its not to bad. like i said i am very impressed with the ride.
total bike weight is around 21kgs, heavy little sucker aint it.
