Video Compression

I am wanting to know what is the best format to save a video file as so that it has best compression as well as great qualty(if there is such a thing). I am using Showbiz to edit and it has a fair few formats as well as a fair few codecs for compression. So bascially what format and compression codec should i use? Thanks.

to compress use DivX.
format, idealy MPEG (MPG) if that's not possible for whatever reason avi.

or alternatively, try Xvid. I think its a better codec, although not as mainstream as DivX now is.
