Riding to work at the Shed, pedestrian light to cross a main road was about to go green (i go so often i know the cycle).. some lady gunned it thru a yellow light just a split second before it went red.

i'd already started moving. BANG.
picked myself up off the road, blood everywhere.

lady stops 10-15metres down the road and comes over with one hand over the wound and muttering some words.. "Whare are you doing?" i ask. "Spiritual healing" she says. "No no no none of that bullshit, get it away!" i reply. ambulance comes later (after 2 tow trucks)

spent most of the day in the hospital, right arm is fucked, huge chunk out and 23 stitches. left knee bent or something. back sore.

guess i'm not quallifying for National series this year

Ahh that sucks mate. From the education I've recieved doesn't yellow mean you have to stop because the light is about to go red and you haven't got right of way? I bet she stops next time......Did you feel overwhelmed by her spiritual stuff and see the light?
I have this instance everyday when I rode to and from work. I wait at the lights for my turn, the green walking dude goes green, I have a look around and 50% of the time some fuckwit runs a red and does his / her best to trample any pedestrian that is doing the right thing. I make sure I wait and look each time.
I guess it is a lesson to all that you should wait for you turn and have that extra look.
I hope you heal up and get back on the bike soon, all the best.

Nah, an amber means pass through if its unsafe to stop, obviously that can be quite subjective, but on the flip side, NEVER cross an intersection when the light is red, you'll save yourself (and the poor person that cleans you up) a lot of grief.

Eww, thats bit of a mess.... but why were you taking off before your light went green? If the light was still amber when the lady gunned it through (and not red) you really put your self in harms way by pedaling out before you should have! Never anticipate what other people do on the road... You're pretty lucky, could've been a lot worse

Amber means GUN IT, we all know that. Crossing on your red is a bit silly unless you look and look and make sure noones coming and look again. Crossing on your green can still be risky as said above, I know I've learnt to ignore the lights alltogether and rely more on observation and instinct than set rules.

lucky it wasnt my OTHER bike

i would have been up shit creek then.

and i WAS lucky to get away with only that. doctors said i was lucky i rode mtb for so long (almost 10 years now) and i knew how to fall and protect my back and neck. phew.

thanks all

unlucky mate hope you have a quick recovery. But the thing that sucks is that there will always be tools who almost run red lights (been almost hit a few times) I just don't bother trying to asume when the light changes, just wait untill it actually changes.

normally the traffic lights go red about 4-5 seconds before the pedestrian light goes green. You dont go when it's amber because that does not mean stop!

got most stitches out today.. i can reach up to touch my left shoulder now (as opposed to pretty much no movement a week ago).

as long as i learnt a lesson!!! also i had a bad shin cut (1cm deep/wide/long) and that has been healing up SUPER quick now due to me not riding. so some good came out of it.

maybe a week or two before i can "ride" again (i can ride a bike around easy)
thanks to everyone for support

This may sound weird of me to say but damn you came off lucky.
I was hit by a falcon that turned onto the wrong side of the road...

I had massive brusing from my thy up to my armpit...

And the toe truck thing...After you said that i'm happy...may sound weird too but the car i was hit by couldn't even start and it needed a toe truck too.

The falcon was just bought 4 days before it hit me...I wrote it off.:p
