Dane

i don't want to find out what i got. i think mum will force me to look it up on the net tomorrow though. i am genuinely worried that i will get a bad mark. no.1 on my prefrences is engineering at monash which requires 91ish... but i think i am looking at about 79/81 as my enter. my exams were bad...

cheers socket,
someone was telling me today that they thought there was a new website for it, like results.com or something... i'm sure if its not the vtac site it will have a link or something.

So how did everyone go?

Dane
15-12-2003, 10:59 AM
i'm not happy with 82.4

Dane
15-12-2003, 11:01 AM
but i will probably get into my second preference

S.
15-12-2003, 11:05 AM
82.4 isn't bad, what are your first and second preferences?

I got 93.00, which hopefully will be enough to scrape me into mech/automotive engineering at RMIT.

Dane
15-12-2003, 11:10 AM
first was engineering at monash clayton: 92ish
second was engineering at monash caufield: 81ish

S.
15-12-2003, 11:17 AM
What's the difference in the courses; is it just the location?

Dane
15-12-2003, 11:39 AM
as far as i can tell. they both have the same description in the vtac guide. i think the caufield campus is smaller. i am going to have to speak to some people, but i've heard that even so, it is really easy to transfer from one campus to the other after the first year.

What the big kick in the balls is, no matter how good you went, is when you realise 3 months down the track that no one in the big wide world gives a shit what you got on your VCE and that yr 12 was a huge waste of time.

PS this is not a rant at anyone in particular, but be prepared for it to happen....unless you become a self centred med student whos life revolves around study.

Yeah for sure... but year 12 was only a waste of time if you wasted it working... which I didn't :)

Dunno man. My cousin worked his arse off and got 65. Luck of the draw, I suppose. I got a LOT of lucky guesses in my exams too...

Socket, i don't think luck of the draw has anything to do with it.
I think shmity's answer was much more creative and i can actually see how that would work.

How do they actually calculate your VCE?

S.
15-12-2003, 03:22 PM
How do they actually calculate your VCE?

Basically, they gather all your marks up, throw them in a washing machine, then invent some numbers to add to the random fuzz that comes out of the machine. These add to half your ENTER.

(seriously, I have NFI)

it must be a queenslander thing...

TJumper: our enter is out of 100, the highest possible mark being 99.95. you could probably work it out from that..? maybe

S.
15-12-2003, 03:25 PM
Yeah it's basically a linear scale from 0.00 to 99.95.

yeah it seems stupidly complicated.
something along the lines of you top 4 study score (which are out of 50, but can be rounded up to 55 if u are a brain doing rocket science). then 10% of you next two subjects study scores, these add up to a big number (aggregate score), then somehow that gets turned into you enter out of 100.

S.
15-12-2003, 03:31 PM
They work it out on a scale according to aggregate scores I think. Basically they divide the number of people doing VCE by 2000 (because there are 2000 possible scores, given that it goes up by 0.05 increments) so n(VCE)/2000 = number of people who get given any one score. For example, if that number is 20, the top 20 people will get a 99.95, the next 20 will get 99.90, the 20 after that will get 99.85, etc, all the way to zero. So basically if you get over 50, you're better than most :)

Ohhhhhhhh ok. Yeah op is a qld thing i think. Like our op thing goes from about 1 to 26 or somthing 1 being the best. So yeah anything under a 4 is prety much considered very goos. A 93 vce would probably be about a 2 then which would be very very nice indded good work Socket.

As Shmity said, unless your going to uni, VCE matters a fuck anyways, 3, 4, 5 months down the track you'll realize this. I got an 86 score, but didnt want to go to uni...till I found out I couldn't get a job, ANYWHERE! So off to Uni(payed my own way) I went, then to Ireland (again payed my own way dispite being broke), then deferred my course after the 1st year :? 5months after that I finally got a "full time job", which is pretty shit anyways!

TIME TO WAKE UP GUYS! IT AINT ALL EASY!!!

Ummmm why you ask?

I'm the ripe old age of.... 20, it was my 20th in November , I finished my VCE 2years ago. I found it pretty easy actually, but the real salt in the wounds was not getting an apprenticeship (or any job for that matter) after year 12, when I turned one down in year 10...At a BMW, Jaguar, LandRover, etc... Dealer!

Dude, you beat 82% of the state! Don't you find that just a LITTLE bit encouraging?!

i went to melb high. (you know the school where you have to pass an entrance exam for yr 9). so basically all my friends etc got above 94 as an enter. i spoke to 4 people from my school today who got 99+ and 1 person who got 99.95, matthew meng, he will be in the papers tomorrow!!! i guess that was kinda getting me down. they are all arrogant fuck-heads any way. i got shit faced on the beach with local friends tonight, chatting to them did make me feel a bit better about it. i guess long story-short, every one else did praise me about it, (bar mum, she had farking high expectations of me). i guess i was expecting more, just because of my school etc. but i admit, i got what i deserved, considering my half-assed attitude towards the end of the year. fuck it i'm so drunk i'm talking shit. lets go ride!

16-12-2003, 10:54 AM
if your VCE's work like our TEE's then it is your

mean schoolwork grade + your mean t.e.e score = TER

Tertiary Enterance Rank which is the uni scores and stuff

I was at Balwyn High, it's much the same there. I know of a number of people who got 99+, most of my friends beat me too. However, I should get into my first preference so I'm happy :)

I got VERY lucky considering I was Farking (see my post count :P) or riding the whole year instead of doing homework.

Did you do 5 subjects (total) or 6?

Dane
16-12-2003, 12:30 PM
i did six.
one 3/4 last year obviously. what about you?
oooh i can hear the postie...

Dane

how about some GAT results:

Written Communication: 23 State Mean: 21/40
Mathematics/Science/Technology: 33 State Mean: 21/35
Humanities/Arts/Social Sciences: 29 State Mean: 18/35

i might try and find last years for comparrison.

Edit: added code for better layout. yeah i'm bored

I did 5, my school wouldn't let me do a 6th cos I didn't get the marks I needed in year 10.

My GAT results sucked, if they'd accused me of cheating I probably would have been "convicted" on those... mainly because I finished it in 45 mins and sat there for the other 2 and a quarter hours (by "finished" I mean "stopped working")

General Achievment Test... it is compulsory for any one doing a yr 12 subject. Its fairly easy and it indirectly affects your ENTER score.

General Achievment Test... it is compulsory for any one doing a yr 12 subject. Its fairly easy and it indirectly affects your ENTER score.

It does not affect your ENTER at all. It's basically circumstantial evidence in case you are accused of cheating, nothing more.
