Gday all,
A friend of mine has just got a Norco Charger and is getting rid of the wheelset The wheels are Sun CR18s. I was considering taking advantage of 'mates rates' but before I do, I was wondering if anyone could give me a heads up on these wheels? I ride XC so they wont be used for jumping or anything like that...just lots trails and maybe the odd XC race.

They are built around Deore Disc hubs and DT spokes so it will be an upgrade to what i have. My current wheels are stock Giant rims off a Yukon...no eyelets or anything and they are on Formula (Front) and M-475 (Rear) hubs.
Thanks in advance all!

ive got a set of them on my 06 Nitro, same hubs and spokes. they do the job, not that heavy, still true. im like you, i dont launch them of cliffs and stuff, just lots of trails. some tyres (2.35 nevegal, 2.1 barracuda) are kinda hard to get on, but i think thats more the tyres fault than the rims.

ive said ill replace them once i bork one of them, im still waiting for that to happen. for the type of riding i do, they work for me

Sun rims are a little notorious for being difficult to get tyres on and off. I run Rhyo Lite XLs on my hardtail with Maxxis minion rubber and to change a tyre I ended up permanently bending 3 tyre levers, all of which I had to use to get the tyre off and on again :p

On topic I really wouldnt know too much about the CR18s, but the complete wheelset sounds like quite a nice step up from the standard Yukon wheelsets your running. I reckon that if you get em for a good price that youd be pretty happy with them.

cheers for the heads up, i figured it was the tyres. as for tyre levers, i use the other end of a fork. they work awesome and no bendage so mum is happy. :D

Thanks guys! Yeah, ive heard alot about tyres being difficult to get on and off these rims. I run Bontragers on my bike at the moment but have a set of 2.35 Nevegal i would like to put on which is going to be a task as they are already difficult tyres to fit! Not to worry!

its not that bad to get the nevegals on, just took a minute or two more than a larsen exception. as long as you've got two levers, its pretty easy. i must admit though, i did have some concerns whether i was going to tear the tube with my levers (forks) but all is well.

if you can get a good price, definately get them

Yeah, as i said, my mate is planning on getting rid of them..hes had the Charger for maybe 3 months and is comming from a road riding background so the rims are pretty good. What price do you reckon I should ask him?

For their weight/price they are a good strong rim. I ran one (doing XC/Trail) for three years with no problems .
