I buy Dirt,Revo and I proof read the others in the news stand and get them if they have a good article or a spec list on a specific product like seats or bars etc.
Most of it's hype generating crap though.
Give me the god damn facts not some snotty nosed freaky talented nitwits dribble.Facts, all I want is the facts, weights, widths, angles, leverage ratio's,results, destinations, discriptions of destinations, peoples rides, and paper that shit will stick to.
Oh and I'd rather pay twice the price than have some marketing bought results,so no advertisements from bike manufacturers.Just the cold hard facts
I don't want to know what bands are cool etc etc.

Free DVD's???
I got a subscription to AMB for chrissy, but Revolution and Clict get me goin.
I read AMB, used to have a subscription, thought the magazine was getting crap so I didn't renew my subscription. Picked up a copy a few months ago at the newsagents and thought it looked better, so I bought it. No subscription though.
I think the bike reviews are alright, but could be a lot better. They all seem to follow the same framework which makes for a boring read.

I still got copies of the US' 'Mountain Bike' mag from 10 years ago.
Entertaining, esoteric articles, but Mountain Bike Action had all the pretty pictures back then.
Nothing has changed with that mag except flashier bikes, and I feel the same with AMB.
(btw, whatever happened with this 3rd Force thingy?)
[R]evolution and Decline are the mags that I itch for the most these days, but when I'm waiting
for the bus at QVB and I need someting to read, anything with two-wheels will do.
i reckon the best mtb mag is MBR its a huge mag once a month publication i know its not an aussie mag but has the best bike reviews and they long term test heaps of bikes. My mate is from wales and he has a subscription and im afraid i buy AMB and MBAu (have subs) but they just dont measure up
not set out as well pictures not as good
also AMB still looks the same as it did ten years ago cos i have every copy and its hardly changed.

Dirt and Decline are the best reads but decline is almost $20 in Newy and Dirt is pommy. Out of the aussies Revolution and AMB are the best.

What are the other australian magazines? I Just named the magazines that are in the local newsagent
Aussie stuff:
AMB
[R]evolution
Mountain Bike Australia
Clict
Freewheel
Enduro
I think Dirt is widely accepted as one of, if not the, worlds best MTB magazine.

They all seem to follow the same framework which makes for a boring read.
I think that probably sums up AMB. They have made too many templates and so even when they have new content it all feels the same.
What they need to do is rip their instruction book a part and start writing everything from scratch. They'll be more stressed and have to work harder but it'll be a better read. Some criteria is good for reviews for sure, but what they've got now doesn't seem to be too interesting. Maybe slightly more broad headings which allow for the writer to focuss on what they liked and dissliked in particular?

i have a subscription to AMB but always seem to go through the mag in like 15 mins. [r]evolution has good reads and its good how they have a wrap up on the national and state races.

Dirt from the poms and Dirt rag from the states, Mtb action online subscription
I just can't stand Amb which is justified by their latest effort, letting the Moorewood importer do the test on the downhill bikes......wtf and proclaiming the mongoose the best endoro bike ever!!!! i say ....wtf... and bagging all 29ers.
They're crap and their tests show no neutrality they just seem to review bikes that happen to advertise with them over and over. photography's crap, and the stories are two minutes long, blah blah blah. not worth buying

i have a subscription to both dirt and AMB. Dirt is the bomb diggity, AMB is average but i didn't pay for that subscription and i wouldn't ever pay for a sub to that toilet paper:p
it's all good though!!

While your all busy haggin on AMB, would you rather read MBA??? ah i think not...
having said that i only buy amb after proofing. My usual purchases are Dirt and an american mag Bike Magazine (http://www.bikemag.com/) . I think it has the best photography and stories and very very little advertising as YOU buy the mag (and what adds are in there are usually pretty well done...). So yea, Dirt and Bike Magazine for me. Also [R]evo and Clict when they look the goods (which is regularly). I find McGills (elizebeth st, melb) have the best range of mtb mags.
Oz mags I buy - [R]evolution
OS mags I buy - MBUK
Decline(only once though because its $20)
i used to buy amb but started to find it got boring

i started buying amb but it gets too repetitive. same format all the time. i only bought it this month for the free dvd:D . i now buy [R]evolution cos its more freeride/downhill. plus i also got free stickers!!

The few times I've actually looked for a mag in the newsagent none really grabbed my interest? IMO the magazines are usually too broad in scope trying to cover too many styles with reviews that don't spell out the good and bad points in a product(s) with any conviction.
Now maybe this is due to the newsagents I've walked into not carrying many of the magazines mentioned above. So, is/are there any good Aussie magazine(s) dedicated to XC with sharp reviews and articles relating to this discipline?

Mountain Biking Australia is the more about cross crountry then the others but not too sure cause i live downhill:D so dont read it much but from what i have read it gives good bike reviews and its easy to read and understand.
ummm... none of the above?
BTW: it says a lot about the quality of a "poll" that asks "wich magazine"...
anyway... back to magazines. My personal monthly reading (in order):
Singletrack
Dirt Rag
Outside
Adventure
Bike Mag
Bicycling (US)
Mountain Bike Action
Mountain Bike
followed by the local mags: (in order)
Mountain Biking Australia
Australian Mountain Bike
Enduro
Revolution/Clict/Freewheel
Elvis.

I certainly would! And I'm a DH'er. You will not find a more qualified and unbiased ed. than JH at MBA. If you want to low down on tech stuff (actual useful info not just useless smeg) MBA is a good read.
My personal Oz fave is Revolution - noice. World Class;)

I actually prefer BMX magazines as they are more street/dj oriented then MTB ones.
RideBMX is probably my favorite but after buying Rebel Yell and reading it all I don't mind it. Plus its an Aussie mag.

I stick by Dirt magazine no matter what. Keen subscriber for a year now and loving it. The staff at 4130 publications are fantastic too.

I usually buy AMB if it looks interesting enough to part with the $'s,just starting to get into [R]evolution' but i love UK mags Dirt and Ride (bmx)> The large format is great for the pics (which there are usually heaps of) and i enjoy the articles, lost of different topics covered and usually a total crack up.:) If i get really bored i might buy MBA. Don't much go for U.S. mags ,crap paper quality and overpricing puts me off.
