i just wanted to know what everyones thoughts are. on my new bike i want to run shivers over 888s if i can get them for the same price because i dont really need the compression adjustment my experience is it just blows stuff up and shivers have the advantages of being inverted plus they look P-I-M-P! but i hear they twist when you crash and are screwed that way and cant be fixed, whats everyone elses thoughts on these forks and dont say "ride them both"

ive ridden them both, one directly after the other. and i have to say i was more impressed by the 03 shiver, felt like they had a better action and no stiction at all. the 888's were only a week old so they might not have been broken in properly yet.
either way, theyre both awesome forks, we'll just have to see if the 888's stand the test of time. at least with the shivers you know you have a proven design

Are we talking new or 2nd hand? I'd assume the 888 is newer than the Shiver so I'd take the 888 for that reason.

Or I can be your standard forum tard, and say:
shiver is only good for freeriding and the 888 is too tall for racing.

personally i'm not a fan of marzocchis forks but if i had to have one i'd take the 888's over the shivers. prefer some dorados or sliders over either though.

go the shivers, they do have the proven design and fell really nice, as of the twisting problem, it would ahve to be a bloody decent crash to twist 03 forks, or this could of happened once or twice and the story has been circulated heaps. i have heard of some of the older ones twisting but havent had any personal experience so this could possibly be BS. the shivers should be the way to go. i have riden 03 shivers and they feel veryyy nice, i have also riden brand new 888's and they felt slightly better than my jnr ts, but they where basically straight out of the box and not broken in. good luck.

if they twist, you can just undo the clamp bolts and put them back into shape... used to happen to my old motie after a bad stack, never reallly hurt the forks

i recon the shivers look the best, the all black doesnt look that great but the cool red stickers on the 888 look cool with black.

im over the all black thing already they just should of done it to the 888's alone. it would of made it more unique. but then again this is just the colour and not the performance. do they have different internal systems or are they similar or do USD forks have to run different dampening systems to normal forks? socket this is your que....

i'll ask one of the mechanics next time im down in manly damnit why didn't i think of that yesterday? im still lost if i get the team dh its gonna have 888's on it already and a direct mount stem so theres gonna be shite all steerer left so they'll be hard to sell as well so i think im just going to get the 888's theyve got the same cartridges as the shivers but with compression adjustment as well dont look as good in my opinion dont stab me please people  and its not the looks that matter is it? is it? is it? damn.....

measuring from the center of axel to the top of the botom crown....
888R (200mm)...605mm
888R (170mm)...575mm
Shiver (190mm).572mm

couple of things i like 888R to the Shiver is the brake mount on the 888R is a lot burlyer than the shiver, adjustments, both rebound, compression, and preload... shiver has rebound and preload.
