hey everyone
i was just wondering how all of you do your ababacu's or your fufanus or how you learnt.
ive recently tried some and had my fair share of injury time. i can't seem to do them!
correct me if i'm wrong, but what you need to do is bunny hop onto an obstacle and hit your back brake so your rear wheel is pinned on the object.
this is what i have been trying but when i try to bunny hop onto/over the thing to start my ababacu, i slam on the back brake and the momentum of the bunny hop makes me nose case hard into the ground.
could you please correct me on what i'm doing and tell me how i should be doing them.
cheers
nic

1 - its Abubaca
2 - start trying them on the back/top of a berm or similar at your bmx track first. just roll up, do a little hop onto your rear wheel stalling with your brake, and then hope backwards an half-cab out.
3 - you're probably falling forwards as a result of not leaning back far enough.. you really need to lean a whole lot further back than you think.

Yeah gutters are good too learn on, but i'd actually reccomend trying on something a bit bigger. I learnt on a ledge at about a foot high and found it easier to learn on than gutters. Generally with gutters you have to give it the tinnniest bit of hop, and in most cases it can be harder than doing something just a bit bigger.
I posted this up a while ago to help someone:

So, after you're in that position, basically keep your weight over the back, and when you're about to leave the ledge/rail bend your knees slightly, drop the front a bit and hop backwards, the reason for dropping your front wheel a bit is so you can get that bit more of power when you're hopping back, because you don't want to be hopping off then your front wheel getting hung up on the ledge. Remember, take off your brake as soon as you left the ledge, I had a problem with not letting go of my brake when I was learning, for some wierd reason.
So, practise on something a fair size compared to your hop, if you can't already hop that well, it might be an idea to practise that a bit more 1st.

But just be careful you don't punture you tyre or get the tube pinched, my mate did it twice because he went to fast and his tyre wasnt pumped up well.

Although Ruckus_Lord's photo is a good example of an abubaca, i'd recommend learning them on something with a squared off edge..It makes it easier for the wheel to grip.
Learn on quarters or uphill slopes where you can hop onto the back wheel then hop back in, then start trying it on something with a square edge..you'll get it soon enough.
Here's a piccy of Naz back in the day..perfect example (on an STP of course).

yea that was me :D
i have mainly got them now but i have also still been havin a bit of trouble keping the wheel up once on the object. i can get up and on alrite, and hold it for a sec.. but not long enough for a hop off
anyway just a little beside the point here.. many people have been mentioning peddle kicks as a method of getting up onto stuff... how exactly do u do that?
i haev been trying w/a mate to do it together, and have had no luck :(
sorry about the threadjack  :o :P

you have to lean back farrkkkkk loads in order to not got forwards when you jump on to the object, also dont go to fast when your aproaching the object your going to jump onto.
hope this helped mate

good work^^. me n my friend learn on a pile of mulch because it was the best thing we could find at that stage. we practiced every arv but still cant get it right. its pretty easy to get up. jus sort of do a bunny hop but lean back heaps then just before u come into contact with the surface grab the brakes. the hard part is comin back but practice hopping backwards on flat ground first.( i still cant get this right)

i always thought it would be easier to learn how to stall first.
then all you have to learn is the art of pedal kicking...
i taught myself how to abubaca in about an hour on a curb, it's alot easier when you have stalling down...
ps. dont ask me to explain as i'm am crap at explain stuff.
