just got back from my 2 days up at buller. Definantly worth a visit for a day or two. Ended up meeting spinner, stick and steve (socket).
I only rode the ABOM track, didn't have the balls for the national track. Even after a finger which swelled up to the size of a carrot and knocking myself out (thanks to the brunswick street cycles guy on the white 222 who helped me out) it was definantly worth it!

The track was pretty bloody rocky, dusty as hell and had quite afew tight sections and all singletrack. Mix all that in with the snowgum forest and you have yourself one hell of a run.

Hey Simo! It was good to meet you and Socket in person, he's a lot bigger than I thought and you were a lot smaller!!
I saw you do a couple of runs from the chairlift , love that bike.
I started crashing a bit towards the end of the day, but had a great 3 days overall. Your riding improves heaps when you can get in 10 - 15 runs
a day :D
Going back about Wednesdayish...

Can you hire bikes, and FF helmets up there? I'd love to do a few (quiet a few) runs up there, but Ima bum (that earns $500pw) and I cant afford a DH rig at the moment :(

I remember that one of the parks, hires bikes and gear, just cant remember which one :P

The only bikes for hire I saw were Kona hardtails, more for the average punter to cruise around on I guess. Not sure about the helmets. You can ride with an open face , but FF is highly advisable.

Raw NRG hire DH bikes an FF helmets at Thredbo.

Good to see you made it home alive Simo, bit of spew you did'nt get to do the International track which I thought it was probably the best DH track I have ever ridden.I did 3 runs on the Abom and 9 of the International,so its not hard to see which one I liked.I found the Abom a bit boring compared to the International, nothing technical or to give you a buzz, but thats my opinion, also did the Klingsporn track at the end of the day,it was about 8ks and took just under 20 minutes to get to the bottom and you didnt have to get of once so its all rideable. Its worth the ride if your not stuffed from doing DH runs all day.Good to meet you Simo, you probably thought what an old bastard ?.I'm probably twice your age...lol...I was up there with a few Vets riders..

the only bikes u can hire r kona XC bikes and they don't allow you on the DH course with em.

oh, and stick, you're all old, it's ok, happens to the best of us.

I preferred the Abom track actually, you could just pin it from top to bottom (and it was easier on a HT). The National track needs a bit of work IMO, some of the stuff up the very top is slow and quite boring. Once you get past the roadgap area though, it does kick arse. It was great to see some bits that really were hard to ride. I think I did about 6 runs on Abom and 4 on National.

Nice to meet Spinner and Crazy, thanks very much to Crazy for helping me repair my bicycicle when I broke my hanger.

Cannot WAIT to go there again!

Buller is awesome. The tracks are getting better as more people ride them, no one has touched them for three years and you could see it, but know they are getting sh1t loads better.

www.mtbuller.com.au

Theres info on chairlift prices ($25) and operating hours (11am to 4pm but I think it might be 10am now).
No info on the tracks though. What do you want to know?

just got back from buller. got up there at 12 and got 7 runs of ABOM in and one on the international track. the our are 10am - 4pm !! dont let the website fool you and the tickets are $25. its a bloody bargain and you would have to be stupid to miss it. they took out all the jumps on the abom track, like the tabletop at the start and halfway down. plus the drop at the start as well. if your planning on heading up this w/e (24th/25th) over the long week end i would be up there as early as possible on saturday morning..like before 8am as they are closing the roads for the porche uphill challenge and you wont be able to get the the top unless you like a 15km push. the international track has been cleared and isn't as rocky as it was 2 years ago. the tree drop is still there as is the ladder. watch tyre pressures and there are a million and one opportunities to pinch flat and there is a fuckload of steel mesh on the ground to hold up banks and drops etc. so watch your wheels. other than that. have fun boys, i'll be seeing you up ther enext week end!

Just got off the phone to Mt Buller resort management.

Sun 25th and Mon 26th Jan. the road will be closed from 9am - 12pm and 3pm - 6pm for the Porsche rally.

The good news is lifts will operate and tracks will be open until 6pm so get there early for an extra few hours riding at no extra cost .

see yez there !

just spent another 3 days these...was awesome! rode the klingsporn trail form top of buller to bottom. definately worht a try if you can get the chance for someone to meet you at the bottom and take you back to the top..sweet as singletrail but steep edge so not for the faint hearted.

I'm super stoked to find out that buller is open again! I haven't been up there for three years so its gonna be killer to get back on the old runs. Just a question to those who've rod eth International Run: would a kona dawg (4" f & r) hold up or do i need someting bigger?

You'll be fine, plenty of people have done it on hardtails. If you're not confident on it, Abom is still heaps of fun :)
