What Squid said, not an Oceania valid licence, but what he did do was an extraordinary display of sportsmanship.
Filip's result would have put him 4th in the elite men, but he stood aside from the results in the Expert men leaving the prizes etc. to the next 3 riders.
Nice work

I don't understand? Didn't Fabian Barel, Steve Peat and a lot of non Oceania riders race at the last Oceania's in NZ under the elite field? Please help me to know why at one event those non Oceania riders can race in the top of the field but not at another?

Ask Tony Scott, it was his decision.
Just for my curiosity, did any of those riders mentioned podium in NZ?? If so did they get an Oceania medal, or did it go to the next Oceania rider?? (that is what happens in ski events).

Barel and Gracia podiumed in NZ 06 but weren't awarded Oceania titles. I guess it doesn't make any difference if Filip was entered in elite or expert , he wasn't eligible for a title. Big of him to do what he did though. Bloody nice guy , I had a chat to him at Stromlo.

In New Zealand a number of overseas riders applied for special dispensation to ride in the Oceania Championships, due to the fact that the Commonwealth Games were a couple of weeks later (XC) and the venue would hold the Worlds later in the year (DH). These riders were granted dispensation FROM THE UCI well before the race. They were able to compete, but not claim the title of Oceania Champion
Filip Polc wasn't aware of this and didn't apply in that way. The rule is that only Oceania licenced rides can compete in the Oceania championships.
What Filip did in the Expert (non-Oceania) class was all class, standing aside to allow the regular Experts take the podium.
For the record, he recorded the fourth fastest time of the day AFTER all the Oceania riders had ridden, and then after all the age group riders, bar Expert!

I can't find the results from the national round in december, but from memory (very hazy) the times look pretty similar in the elite mens field, But slower this time round from the u19's and elite women who were at both races.
Just out of interest for anyone who can shed some light, what was involved in ensuring sponsorship info. was on the results sheet? There's two aussie girl-pinners on the podium there whose sponsors got left out, and I'm just wondering where the failure was....

I'm guessing they entered on the weekend- normally the sponsors are only entered for people who pre enter.

Congrats to Big Jon Odams for the mucho result.
You're dangerous!
FWIW people, this man-o-man finished top 20 in elite on a diet of flap jacks and pepsi, along with running one of Sydney's most primo cyclo shoppo's! He has no time to train!
Our best mate, from 661 and E13!:D
