Hey guys,
Well, I want to give BMX a go soon, so I need to decide on a rough build..I've decided on most things, other than frame....
I will be using it for Street and Skatepark riding, I don't want to spend a whole heap ($400ish on frame, will shop overseas for frame if need be), (No Ti reapers.), I want it to be ~5lbs, I'm 6ft 5, so needs to be available in a 21" TT or above, I still want it to be strong (I don't need huge amounts of strength), Um, short drop outs if possible (can always file them), brake mounts or no brake mounts, doesn't bother me (I'm running brakeless.).
I think i've covered about all that needs to be known? If you need to know anything more let me know.
Cheers.

fit hawk, 5lbs, $579 here, 21tt
if you can go overseas, and depending on price and such, i'd deffinately look well into the FBM frames. they make nice frames. most are 5.2lb
for around $400, new, apparently the Sunday frame is a street frame, so maybe thats the way to go (5.4lbs) i think.....

Sounds like a safe bet. Though they don't have the shortest dropouts. For around 400 aud, you could get pretty much any frame you want off dans (not including postage). FBM stairmaster, Fit S3, etc
If I was you I would get a Mutiny Burlish in raw 21"tt, its a trails frame so nice small dropouts etc. Will you be going brakeless? If so look at the Mutiny Burlish holdfast ltd verion, Josh Bedford sig, no brake mounts, only one in aus, extra plates on chainstays for grinds, which makes it a more durable frame than the normal burlish. Its on strictly by the way.
Or wait a bit for those Colony frames, I heard they are like 4.2 pounds or something crazy. And they would be fairly cheap (ish), being an Aus based company.
Burlish Holdfast Bedford sig:

Simple Enigma: I like this one too, 21.05" tt, those pretty, tiny dropouts, sweet p/job, niiiice

I really like the Burlish holdfast bedford sig frame, it's a fairly good price too. So far that's top of my list.
fair_enough69, As much as that's a good deal, I really only want to be shopping at the one place (empire bmx), so yeah.

Nah. I'm only selling the NPJ if the price is right. And if I do it will be for another 2six bike.

i wouldn't go the Bibi for a street frame. thats what ive done. beautiful frame (except the dent i put in mine today:mad: ), but way too long to be a street bike. the FBM autopilot was the nicest street frame ive ever touched

Really? The geo doesn't look to long, such as the tt and the chainstay....you own it so you would know...But compared to most other steet frames it looks alright:confused:
FBM geo looks dialed, but its a whale at 5lbs 4 oz.

5.2lbs. you the version i had was lighter, coz it was shorter. and i did not feel heavy at all. actually, i shall weigh mine on thursday, as it is just sitting in my room with no headset or BB on it, so i can find the weight. but it was a better street frame. im just getting used to my Bibi now. try it out for yourself, but it is a trails frame

Yeah, the only problem with a The Take is their shit colours. They fail to produce a simple black frame.

fit hawks are apparently discontinued.I wouldn't buy one anyway do street as they dent wayyyy to easy.Iver heard there is a new hawk frame that has no brake mounts ans is similar to the Edwin frame.look at the superstar new deal.awsom feeling frame and its light.I also like the standard 250 trail boss frame or if you want the street version the 250 s
Yeah standard 250 L's are soo mad! So are Take Ivy's...

I was fairly keen on the FBM stairmaster, but heard off a mate to stay away from 'em for some reason?
The Standard 250 S looks very nice. Tempting.

It's between the FBM Stairmaster and Standard 250S; Which one for street and a bit of park use?
rhysrhysbaby

Stairmaster because the standards are real expensive.
its a bmx frame, not a boutique road frame. its going to get beat up.

Yes, gravedig. No, i don't care.
I'm thinking about getting a street bmx frame too, and really like the look of Drew's Stairmaster. BUT, what i'm wondering is have their been any frames to come out in the past couple of months that i should be considering as an alternative?
Similarly to Drew i'm wanting something quite light for street/skatepark riding specifically. I don't go massive so strength isn't a huge issue. I'll run brakeless, too.
Different to Drew, i'm only 5'9", so want a short TT i'm guessing (i know fuck all about bmx TT lengths..?). Would you say around 20"?
Finally, i don't want emo colours;)
Hit me up with your opinions?
Cheers,
Tristan

Tristan- I think a 20.5-20.75" TT would suit you, I'm like 4 foot tall and can handle a 20.75 no problems.

Exactly. The reason i re-started this thread was because people seem to cop shit for starting threads that have already been covered, and this one wasn't too old, and i thought my question was pretty much relevant here..
Thanks for your help so far guys. Any other suggestions appreciated.
Bars make all the difference to how long a bike feels and most complete bikes come stock with crappy, low, skinny bars.
For example, Drews 20.75" Stairmaster with 8.25" tall Odyssey Lumberjacks feels way longer than my 21" Jane with 8" tall Sunday Triumphs. I recently rode a kids 20.5" frame with Slams on it and it was fine comfort wise, plus it spun heaps faster and was generally easier to trick than my frame.
Keep this in mind when you're test riding frames. I now realise I could have gone for a way shorter frame with taller, wider bars and still ridden it comfortably.

Cheers for that info Ryan. I would have never known otherwise.
I think i'm going to get some ghetto-ass Slam XLT's or something wide just to be scene. This whole BMX thing isn't really where i'm headed, but you know..following suit as they say. Gotta give it a try.
Again, cheers for the insight.

or the master blaster as it is the new refined stairmaster
or the howler as it is the leading fbm frame at this time
Are you serious mate? Neither the master blaster or the howler are even released yet. How can an unreleased frame be a companies leading frame "at this time"? They've only been spotted in proto-form at Interbike.
