The worlds fastest riders come from Australia. Aussies are on every podium all over the world. They all started at the same place though - The Australian National Series.

'Compression' shows the great culture and atmopshere that the australian National Series is renowned for, and follows the highs and lows of some of the worlds fastest riders pushing it to, and some times past the limit, for the overall series win.

'Compression', a film brought to you by Buzz Monkey Energy and Farkin.Net, manages to squeeze 5+ months of racing and riding into an incredibly action packed film. It is a spectacle to watch, and will have you sitting back in awe.

A film by Sam Davies.

Film looks good, but watching it raised some interesting questions for all of us...

That track in Wollongong that Amiel's riding ain't legal.

What are the legal issues - if any - involved in making a movie featuring riding on illegal tracks?

Did the film-maker get permission to film there? If not, is the film-maker liable? Is the rider?

Some food for thought (or space for a lawyer-type-person to step up and fill us in)...

Maybe you could have kept tight lipped about that one.
My boys noticed it as well (the track)
No need to bring to the attention of those "not in the know" so to speak.
You may have inadvertantly just sent a whole section to the editors floor.

Err... I disagree. Remaining tight-lipped isn't going to stop other people noticing it.

Mountain bikers in Australia (the world over, really) have trouble with legal trail access. Many advocacy groups are trying to get access to areas opened up, but illegal trail building doesn't help their cause.

Now that you mention it, I'd rather see a section cut than have a film expose the MTB community to more criticism about illegal trail access.

Riders all have a responsibility to help sort out the trail access issues ourselves - having well-known / high-profile members of the MTB community popularising riding illegal tracks doesn't help mountain bikers as a group be taken seriously when campaigning for legal trail access.

National Parks and other advocacy groups that might be anti-MTB can point to videos involving riding in illegal areas and say that mountain bikers don't respect land owners. This doesn't help mountain bikers in any way.

alright everybody out of the pool. fun is over.....

mattover, pull your head in and stop thread-jacking. if everything was done by the book to make an extreme sports film, they would never get made. fullstop - end of discussion. appreciate it for what it is, and if you really feel the need to vent on this, do it in another thread - please.

thanks,

alister

Sorry for "thread jacking", as you put it. Head has been "pulled in". My question was an innocent one designed to get people to think and discuss. I thought that's what forums were for - thought and discussion.

As to whether you can make an extreme sports film while still respecting land owners, you're right: that is for another thread.

Thank for your understanding matt. It is appreciated. I would hate to see the trailer for Sam's first film turned into anything other than a celebration of mountain biking and of Sam's hard work.

Now, back on topic, I for one am really bloody keen to see this film in its entirety. (Have not seen the whole thing yet, but am hoping to soon!)

Cheers,

Alister

Fair comment and I actually agree with your views.
My comment was based on the premise that "relatively few" would pick this section of track (yes/no????)

Looks like some great footage. If you don't mind some crit, i'd say graphically there could be some work done, just the "Compression" logo, and generally all of the of the more "graphical" elements through out the movie kind of seemed 2nd rate (Logos, text, ect), so maybe some food for though for the future?

But don't get me wrong, it still looks damn kick arse!
