well i am putting V brakes on my bike (its a hardtail) with some kool stop pads, and well my question is, when i put them on and it wears away the paint on my rim, would i be able to buff the side walls of the rim so its like chrome and it would have the same effect as a chrome rim?
and yes i know chrome rims have a special proces to make them chrome but by buffing it and making it smooth would it make it have a better brake performance?
I'm pretty sure you can get chrome mtb rims but they are rare or something, Naz had/has some on his Eastbeast with a v-brake, he said it worked really well. But if you don't want to go to the hassle of getting one of them, I don't know about buffing but you can try alcohol or simple green on the rim, or ive heard of people taking to the rim with an angle grinder and roughening up the surface.

no, the reason chrome rims work well at braking is because they have a hard surface. and smooth naked aluminium surface will not work. keep the paint on it, it creates a harder surface which is better for braking

Mtxes are disc-only rims, you can't use them with rim brakes.
edit: here (http://forums.farkin.net/showthread.php?t=53311)is Naz's 26" with a chrome rim. It's a peregrine MAD MAXX or something.
