Hmmm... that looks fake to me, how can he jump out of the chopper and then 3-4 seconds later the side door is closed? Oh an no Full Face? Tool. Could have just ridden down the hill and edited a chopper in?
Haha, no idea.... :?
holy crap, thats huge. how big was the drop?
I'd like to see a vid of it before I judge it... the angles of the photos sorta complicate the issue.

Looks like he's wearing lycra too. Thats a big drop for a what looks like an XC duelly with the seat up. Look closely

looks pretty fake, as far as i no the blades on the chopper have to be spinning fast to stay up
eeasily the fakest thing ive seen, as far as i no the blades on the chopper have to be spinning fast to stay up
it's called a high shutter speed dude, they can take pictures of buttlets in flight with a fast enough shutters.
the only thing it has going for it is the dust being kicked up off the surface in the first pic.

its fabien barrel people. as in the kona clump rider. so it could possibly be anything from a kona bear to a stinky dee lux. and i dont think fabien would put out fake material. and your a wanker pyschodh and you should shut up unless you can say something useful.
Looks like a Kona 4bar, they all look the same from that angle. But as I said, the photos are a bit hard to judge height on, so it's a bit wrong to call fake just because they itseems overly huge.

it is a kona 4 bar its fabien barel.......as in the kona clump rider, i think kona would hunt him down and shoot him if he did a promo shot on another bike. and its definetly not fake.
and he's not wearing lycra.... and who cares if he is? has anyone seen the 2 pahe spread in mba of sam hill in the aus skin suit? who cares..

Please point out in my post where I bagged him for lycra???
It may very well be real but it looks like a Dirt Jump Photo of Fabian cut and pasted into a chopper photo.
The other issue I have with the photo is the fact that he is leaving the chopper facing side ways and little backwards compared to the gradiant of the slope.
Would'nt it make sense to exit the chopper facing down the hill :?:
Or is hucking up hill the new FR thing :?: :?:
According to NSMB its a Dawg Primo which is a "back country" bike but it is Barrell and hes an outstanding rider so why not? Im not sure the second photo is actually what happened next if you know what I mean, it looks like too big a drop if thats where he landed. That shot may have been taken 30 seconds after he hit the ground or even longer for all we know, hopefully someone got it on video so it'll all be clear. I personally think its legit, why would they bother setting this all up? I think Barrell might have better things to do with his day than fool the kids on the net. Besides I remember a lot of people thought Dave Watsons Tour gap jump was fake too.

I dont know too much about photography so what i am about to post could be completely wrong.
Notice how far in the first picture the camera has zoomed in and the location of the chopper in regards to the ground. Note how far out in the second picture the camera has zoomed out and the location of the chopper in regards to the ground. Note in the second photo how short the dirt trail is (meaing that they have the rider has just landed on the ground). I assume the drop time in the air would be very short. Would a photgrapher have time to do all that and would the chopper have time to get that far up (based on the dust from the rider.
By the way where did the second rider in the second photo come from?
Looks like he was standing on the skids, outside foot on the pedal, inside foot on the skid being held steady by the guy sticking out of the shopper.... then 123 push off and drop.
As for the second photo where does it say this was immediatley after the first shot. It could have been taken anytime.
I think the "dirt trail", as in cloud of dust, in the second photo is where they both decided to hit the brakes, not where he landed.
Second rider was left at the top, Barrell got back on the chopper then jumped out, so who knows what happened, maybe the 2nd rider chased him down or something, whatever, we need a video.
wunder if he he actualy jumps outa the chopper at all, maybe the pic ain't fake but the text is...... coz it would make sense id he were jumping up off a kicker and giving old mate hangin out the window a high 5.

this is absolute bullshit. ITS NOT FAKE FOR FARKS SAKE! maybe the angle of the camera shots where wrong for the first pic and he had a landing on the other side of the mound that you can see. this artical is in a few big mtb sites, it wouldnt be published there if it was fake. get over it people!
i know its a bit late but i think the second rider is just a sequence of him landing... it looks like the same rider... or am i way off???

no there are 2 riders
this is real.
it appears that he is decending one footed, adding to the fake look, but he is actualy stepping out, i dont know if anybody else hear flys helicopters, but a squirrel is not the most powerfull helicopter on earth and the reduction of weight that a person jumpining out, allong with the added cyclic needed to provide enough anti-tourque force to compensate for imbalenced drag of a person hanging on the side would cause the helicopter to raise rapidly. as seen in the picture.
the crewman is aiding his exit (pushing him away) , not "giving him a high 5"
I don't care if it's fake or not ...
Can I have a ticket please !

Here's my take on it :
Pic 1 : A rider stepping off the heli skid to what looks like about a 10 foot drop . Big , but not impossible . I feel for the Dawg Primo, but. Poor thing !
Pic 2 : Two riders locking up down a pretty steep hill with the heli in the background. Nothing more than that.
Ten points for originality although I think skiers have been doing it for a while now.

ooohhh it's on the internet and nsmb!!!! It must be real.
You would think if it was legit and and they went to all that trouble, payed for the chopper, payed Fabian, they could at least get a couple of decent photo's and some vid. The chopper must of blown out the budget and could'nt afford the upload time of the Digi photo's on there dial up connection.
It's shit!
You would think if it was legit and and they went to all that trouble, payed for the chopper, payed Fabian, they could at least get a couple of decent photo's and some vid.
Or they could be the initial photos and Kona or whoever owns the rights to them are going to sell the images to magazines or it will be used in a video that we will all go and buy. Surely that wouldnt happen would it? A company actually trying to make money from a sponsored rider they flew up a fucken volcano? Nah thatd be dumb. Why would they use the initial shots to create talk and excitement about their brand and riders? You'd think they were just in the business to sell bikes rather than impress people on the internet...

Fake...
That a Squirrel (?) chopper, there isnt enough room to stand in one of those let alone ride a bike out the side.
That's why Weasel, if you read the story, they said that they had to dismantle the bikes, and assemble them when they landed. He then hung off the side of it whilst it took off, and jumped off.

dude its not skid dust, if three people were riding down something like that then there would be dust all the way down from where they started riding to where they stop, its where they landed that the dust is and thats why its there. but it's pretty hard to beleive that someone did a drop like that while wearing lycra, riding a xc bike with the seat up.
its fabien barrel people. as in the kona clump rider. so it could possibly be anything from a kona bear to a stinky dee lux. and i dont think fabien would put out fake material. and your a wanker pyschodh and you should shut up unless you can say something useful.
Im with Bazza ... It's Barel .. the dude has more skill then most of us put together.
It's not a fake ... it was on dhrace ages ago .. Barel got bored and decided to huck out of a chooper .. ok so it looks like he hucked 60ft .. but there is an actual story to it .. the angles may fool you.
It was a large huck though ..
Ill and track down the original story .. it was either dhrace or Stikandstones.
But to everyone in this thread who thinks they are guru's and have called it a fake cause of some witty reason ... research into it a little before ya think ya know it.

I don't get what's so hard to believe here. Jumping out of choppers is a way old school xtreem ski trick so why can't it be done on a pushi? The drop itself looks smaller than the ones we all take for granted on videos these days. The turbulence from the chopper wouldn't be that big a deal as a bike doesn't have any large flat surfaces on it. Despite Wendels claim that the pressure will turn you into a pancake, plenty of people have stepped out the side doors of way bigger choppers than that with no dramas at all. Now stop upsetting Gus all of you! :)

"you would not be able to do that the pressure would make it almost impossible to get out let alone land strait". how old are you? 12? got any concepts of physics? the lift force off the collective pitch is close to zero that close to the fuselage, thus not creating huge effects on the anti-tourque fittings to the empanage.
"they wouldnt let you do that either it is against aviation safety laws". which law is that exactly? as far as I know this isnt in australia and CASA, not the FAA ( the body who's duristiction this stunt fell under) has current laws against flying below 500ft AGL without pilot licensing and ATC aproval. FAA on the other hand has laws that mandate that "a/c undertaking flight plans that involve flight below 750ft AGL are to instigate teh MBZ (manditory broadcast zone) 3NM surrounding the location of the a/c"
Or is it the legality of the actual jump your questioning? because as far as thats concerned it is a case of "The FAA has no powers of actions regarding the disembarkment of an a/c midflight, activities such as skydiving and parachuting are undertaken at the risk of the pilot in command, and it is he/she that is responsible for such actions."

Try a little Google search with the words: "helicopter Danny Way"
Methinks what Danny Way did a few years ago is just a bit more technical and precise than what this dude does on a bike.
Seriously people... PLEASE research or at least back up your arguments with a few links to reputable sites or resources?
