It's been canceled, I just rung the fucking radio station and they wont announce it. They say it "has to come from the Bureau of Metereology". Get fucked I say, think of all the old people that are going to be panicking.

Stupidest thing I find is they spoke to BOM shortly after I rung, and BOM is still to stupid to find out its been canceled!

i'm right on the beach just north of Port Douglas and we've gotten no-more than the forcasted south-eastly change.

last month I dived the area that got hammered in southern Thailand and you can see massive amounts of damage on the reef there, really makes you relise the power of these things.

(on that note, last saturday i was diving on the pacific side of Agincourt Reef (open ocean side) and it would of been massive dramas if we had even the smallest surge out there)

That would've been very interesting seeing the reef after a tsunami (interesting any time too). What type of things does it do to a reef? Totally destroy it or smash the crap out of one side? I've never heard anything about that stuff.

I'm hoping the tsunami doesn't evolve into anything more than a small splash because my father in law is on a fishing boat 30 hours out to sea from Gladstone.......no phone reception and apparently the radio on the boat has some reliability issues. Crossing my fingers........

on the front side of the reef (mostly fringe reef) there were no large soft corals or any long tube worms and the rest of the reef looked like an avanlanch of hard coral bits had crashed though it

on the flip side, the receeding wave pulled heaps of nutrients off the land so there were massive amounts of small fish and lots of new coral growth.

all a circle of life thing I guess.

Out at sea a tsunami is just like an elevated body of water travelling along... in a boat you'd not even notice it as you'd rise up the metre or two, sit on the plateu of water and then drop the half-hour or so later after it passes. It's only when the water reaches land that it builds up to be big wave of destruction.
