meh.
It's the best on offer on the FM dial, and I've been listening to it forever, so I guess it will have to do.
Not as good as it used to be. Seriously dumbed down in recent years.

The J's all the fricken way. If i can't listen to JJJ, then onto ABC radio it goes....If i can't listen to either, the radio is off!. Simply because all other radio stations I know about (besides maybe 102.9 GOLD FM which cranks out some of the older tunes) is loaded with adds and complete bullshit music.
When I was doing a bit of nightshift work (plumbing on cold water pipes at Logan Hospital) with my mums partner, the 1.5-2hour drive to was almost completely un-bearable towards the end of it, as the radio was constantly on 90.0 seaFM which is a highly commercialised bullshit radio station. On the few last nights I would do the driving simply because I could control the radio.
I don't normally listen to such radio stations and after it i realised why. Each break was jam packed full of ads and even the weather, surf and traffic reports were "brought to you by Gold Coast City Honda...the best place to get the deals" and so on!
I have just been put on by two builders (mums partners best mate and his best mate) and we were having a discussion about triple j. It turns out that one of the rules you work under is that if any radio is to be played, it must be set to triple j!. I'm all for it.
This may be a bit of a generalisation here, but is it just me or does it seem that people with brains opt for radio stations such as jjj, ABC and so on?

Heaps better than commercial stations, triple M almost sends me into a homocidal rage!!! I think the J's should get rid of Sam Simmons, the most unfunny person they have ever had on the station. Dr Karl rules! The news reports are better. And they are not scared to play something different!
I really wish they would stop playing My Chemical Romance but.

Love the J's:D , been listening to it since I was a weee tacker but I have to agree to some degree that they are quite as good as they use to be.
Having said that, I would rather have my testicles marinated in burly and dipped in a shark tank then listen to MMM or Nova or B105 or that sort of shit. For a prime examle, that Old Man River song that was first played on the Js a few months ago...is now brand new music on Nova, never heard before:rolleyes:
Not a huge fan of it really, I often feel old and jaded when listening. It is probably the best FM station out there, and funnily enough I'm listening to a stream of the Sound Lab, one of their speciality programs, right now.
I'm sure a few of the smaller stations would play the same calibre of music but they're nowhere near as accesible and that makes a huge difference for regular listening.

That's my reasoning... big brain :p
Besides, i work in advertising, i have to produce the shit, I sure as hell don't won't to hear/see it too much.
JJJ is my one and only radio option, it's just unfortunate soppy rock bands are very popular at t he moment

I'm sure the commercial stations have someone monitoring the J's and listening to "super requests" to work out what thier hot new songs will be two months from now.:D

yeah its alright, used to live on it... now im on and off.
merric and rosso on JJJ.. they were the days.
its the best of a bad bunch really. radio sucks balls in general, i only like listening to it because it offers some different stuff. most of the time this different stuff sucks balls. plus i hate the whole aura of triple j. sometimes i find myself thinking, what kind of a fucking moron would sit there and go, "wow, this music is unbelievable!"
end rant
p.s i'm leaving out all the "i guess they can like whatever they like" bullshit

Tend to spend time flicking between FBI, 2SER, RRR and JJJ. But only when I'm sick of the CD's I brought with me in the car.

Yeah I only do 2ser or FBI,JJJ is mind numbingly boring with their labotomising the masses droning dumb humour. Baaahh. I went to a party at someone from JJJs recently and there were so many stuck up people there,I couldn't figure out how to master the who could talk the most game.Didn't stay to long.

I was getting bored driving to work everyday listening to the same old crap on JJJ. Took a gamble and started listening to the first station on the AM Dial. Ended up with 4KQ. It is the shit. And I know that I'm not coming back.
4KQ - Good Times and Great Classic Hits.
I switch between FBI & JJJ. Weekends on FBI kill everything, except now Fat Planet has been moved to friday afternoon so I will never hear it :(
But mainly the radio is set to ABC 702

PBS in Melbourne all the way! Thank goodness for internet radio...
Personally i'm not down with the j's anymore, mainly for the fact that at one point, i couldn't stand listening to any of the announcers. That one chick who giggled inanely through her couple hours used to make me psychotic!

I've always listened to JJJ and I always will......it has dictated my music interest for yonks and I've enjoyed every minute of it! Adam Spencer has been the best host (apart from the foxy Myf ;) ).........Ross and Terri always made me laugh non stop too.
They offer more to the music minded people.....just like me!

What can JJJ do to improve 1000%? Get rid of Scott Arseclown Dooley. Worst person on JJJ ever (even worse than when JJJim stupidly asked me a question live :p). So many examples of his uselessness.
On Sunday he was saying that it was his last show, and I can only hope that wasn't a lame April Fool's joke.
He might have been ok as the occasional sports-guy on Mel's afternoon show, but giving him more than 30 seconds on air is the stupidest thing they've ever done.
Other than that, I don't mind the J's when I'm driving, which is about the only time I listen to the radio. FBi gets a bit of a listen, but some of the shows don't float my boat.

I completely agree.
I used to like JJJ, but now it may as well be FOX. So much pop crap and the announcers have been seriously downgraded.
One thing that SHITS ME TO NO END is the absolutely insane amount of compression they apply to their broadcast. Everything that comes out of their station "sounds" like garbage. I know that all stations use varying amounts of compression, but JJJ have gone to the point of destroying it.
PBS and RRR (melbourne or internet broadcast) are where its at.

I agree. JJJ is still ok, but I lean slightly more towards FBI 94.5 (and I'm a paying member as well). 2SER is good as well.
RCOH, I didn't know Fat Planet moved!!!! NOOO!!! Shows how much I've been listening to the radio lately. Stuart Buchannan is one of the best DJs out there, IMO.
In fact, my opinions and habits on radio are practically identical to RCOH. Especially the 702am part. Weird.
Must be our demographic.
FBI plays too much Aussie hip-hop though. But then again, I think rap/hip-hop died about 10 years ago, and the aussie version of it makes it even worse.

mornings on jjj is heaps better now mel is gone. one thing ive noticed happening recently is repeating of songs (in one day), and its not limited to the album of the weeks music.

I enjoyed Mel, but wish for the days of Jen Aldershaw?(sp) being a daily listener now since well...when the j's turned up in Qld....1990?
Actually the demise of real talkback/discusion morning show (no matter who the host is) has got the j's in a bad state, can't say I enjoy the early afternoons either.
Unfortunately the two female dj's during these shifts piss me off with their raving about blah, blah album being so great......STFU
To them I say "it isn't about you".

Jen Oldershaw was kind of a highpoint on JJJ for me at least.
Decent, intelligent talkback on interesting topics.
I find myself drifting further and further towards switching to 702 these days, but I doubt I'll make a permanent switch. My folks are in their 60's and still listen to JJJ (and have been since it was double J in 1975)

Strangely, after having listened to JJJ since they started, thanks to my folks in the 70's, and more recently thanks to there being not much else better, the music JJJ plays doesn't really interest me at all. The stuff I'm interested in would only get a guernsey on one of their specialist shows, and even then it rarely if ever gets played.
The music on JJJ is better than what gets played elsewhere, and doesn't annoy me too badly, but it's not like I'd go out and buy any of it for the most part. Still, it has broadened my musical horizons somewhat, and that can't be a bad thing!

I find for the most part that the music on JJJ is quite narrow, they have the odd decent show here and there (3 hours of power or whatever its called now) and some occasionally new and interesting music, but it seems that the music played is either "aussie hip hop" (*gags my self), new "indy/pop rock" or new folk and not much else.
I do like the unearthed stuff though. They should concentrate more on that than regurgitating Lady Soveriegn over and over again.

Yeah, love the CD player. Although, when there is no CD player it's normally JJJ for me. Everything else is pretty crap.

Personally I'm not down with the j's anymore,
i once was a huge fan of triple J, it's now lost me as a listener all together.
honestly i cant imagine life without PBS or RRR, the music i hear on these stations has made me who i am.
whenever I'm in the car with a mate and the radio is set to commercial i find it strange listening to the fony and ecstatic tone in the presenters voices and the relentless and bizarrely annoying commercials.
there are other stations???
mine may as well be glued to it. personally i dont have an errection problem so dont need the nasal or anal errriction spray the commercial stations sell.
