View Full Version : Why is it...
... that so many people on this site give advice/recommendations on what someone else should buy, but have to ask other people's advice on what they should buy for the same type of component (usually frames, forks or brakes)? Weird huh.

Because its always good to seek advice and know other opinions. Its not advice, its more opinions to what they'd choose.

Yeah but if you (not you specifically) already HAVE an opinion on something (say DH forks), why do you feel the need to then go and ask "what should I buy?" when you're looking at buying a new DH fork? Not targetted at anyone in particular, it just seems strange to me that people do that.
off topic...
you know whats worse all these 12 and 13 year kids gettin awesome bikes they wouldnt be able to use till there 16/17 its a joke i know of 3 in particular ppl with awesome bikes they dont need and one of them just got his n wants to change frame its a joke

yeah but i think ppl ask just for closure... so they cant think, aah i made the right choice, or at least blame the ppl who recommended that choice if something goes pear shaped :P

Maybe, but a lot of the people I see doing it are some of the most opinionated people on the boards (not just on Farkin)... for example, the Canadian/American currently browsing the boards before/over his morning coffee ;)

Some of that i agree with naz, like if they are getting sick bikes just too look cool then they shouldnt be riding mtbs, maybe take up skateboarding or somthing where 50 percent of the ppl are posers.
I think if somone has the money for a bike go for it (asuming its not for the cool factor) i know if i had the money for a bb7 itd be sitting in my garage right now not that i would stand a chance against the other riders with bikes in that price range.
Back on topic, You can never really get to much advice (providing its legitimate) so asking around even if you already have your own personal opinion hasnt really got anything wrong with it.
no example, a kid had a ac2, just got a brand new azonic ds-1, wit good components, n decides he doesnt like the frame n now wants a le toy 3, btw 12 or 13 or somethin, n rides like a fat kid doing exercise
:P
sorry socket...
because they want acceptance?

What about durability? You may have an opinion on performance or looks (and come on, everyone cares how their bike looks), but chances are you won't have a true idea of durability. Even if you have had bad experience with a certain product it may be worth asking just to see if it was an isolated incident or something worse.
