Is Stromlo 4X Open?

hi guys im just wondering if anyone can tell me if the Mtnx course at Stromlo is open yet or when it is going to be open

1. No it's still not officially open, although the amount of people you see on it you'd think otherwise.

2. It won't open till the dozers finish pushing dirt around the western side, (the side not done yet). how long will that take? who knows, there has been alot of activity on the site over the last 3-4 weeks, so hopefully very soon.

The 4X track was MEANT to be finished by the end of this month. That makes it this Tuesday. But on my ride to work this morning I still saw b-doubles heading down Cotter Road towards Stromlo with dirt in the back so I asume they still have some modelling of the edges to do. That said, it was looking 95% done at the NSW State round last weekend so I'm wondering what they stil have to do. They'd even managed to fix up the road to the start gate which is very gentle to the user (you can ride almost to the top).

I'll ask for an update next week from the Govt and see where they are up to. It should be noted though that SUPPOSEDLY Glen has to sign off on the track beforehand, but I think this is more a Govt beaurocratic process than anything on Glen's side. Let's hope Glen can phone in his 'sign-off' from Brisbane as soon as the last piece of trucked in dirt has been put into place. I just want to ride that sucker!

In the meantime though it's still wise to keep off it - there are some serious trucks and bulldozers around even on the weekends and I'd hate to see an unfortunate rider become a permanent part of the track (and because it ain't open and you know about it there goes any insurance claim).

The heavy machinery was still finishing off the landscaping.

Had a meeting with the Park Ranger/Manager onsite yesterday afternoon to do a walk-around and check out the status of things. At this point in time the north side of the track has all been nicely shaped, laid with top soil and seeded. The western and southern edges have still got some more dirt to go on top followed by the topsoil and seed.

The manager expects the remaining work on the track to be completed in time for Round 1 of the club 4X series on Sunday 27th May (weekend after next), after which time it should be open to the public to use from that time on. (to be confirmed of course)

Please note that there will be an access road for people to get to the top that traverses the southern edge of the track. The area of the 4X mound to the south of this will be top-soiled and grassed, and riders are asked to KEEP OFF this (just stick to the access road), as well as the grassed area on the northern edge. If not then the grass won't grow and everyone will bitch about it being a dust bowl and...
You get the picture.

Personally, I'm really looking forward to being able to ride the sucker. Watching the NSW state round there a few weeks back got me damn excited.
