don't they lace your new rim up with new spokes because your old ones have already been under too much tension to be lacd to a new rim and all that gizmo stuff.well thats what i think anyway,if i'm wrong please tell me.

thats true, especially if you destroyed the wheel in the first place then the spokes most probably wont be too healthy.. new spokes it is then!! :D

I think he just wants to know why he needs new spokes. And also if you’re changing brand/type of wheel you may need different length spokes also. :)

I'm not the best at explaining things but I'll give it a go.
The reason you need new spokes everytime you build your wheels (even if it's not dead) is that the strength in a wheel comes from the spokes being put under tension. After a spoke has been tensioned it will make the wheel strong until you release the tension, once the tension is released the strength of the spoke is compromised because it has been put through an ammount of stress.
It is the same basic concept as bending a piece of wire, if you bend it once it should still be strong but as soon as you bend it back it's likely that it will break because the multiple bends have weakened the bonds between the molecules in the metal.
I think that's right anyway. Oh and there is also the fact that there are different lengths between rims and hubs, so every combination is different.

When fixing a wheel always use new spokes, because the others will have been thru alot of stress and will be alot weaker.
