Nah fo'real;

http://www.rst.com.tw/product/pd2007/space.htm

Actually don't look half bad, Guy Marsh (tonic fab rider) is running them this season; Option of 80mm as well.

I've seen them getting around on quite a few big name bikes, can't be as bad as RST's reputation make them out to be?

When I first saw these forks I could tell they were alright, there different to the usually 15mm stanchions and 60mm travel forks thats for sure.

Maybe RST will shine again?

In the late 90's they started to get a pretty good reputation in the mountain bike world... they must have done something wrong...

Lose the stickers/graphics and they would be alright.
If the rrp was about 400, i would concidder them:p

These were the ones from last year

http://www.rst.com.tw/product/pd2006/space-jump.htm

Kind of the same except black stanchions which, in my opinion, look heaps better. Specs are preobably a bit better in the '07 though.

i like dirt

Don't know why but the lowers on them remind me of fox 36s.

I dont mind them. Very basic but thats all you need in a DJ fork. I'd say the best thing they did was ditch those pathetic looking rubber things on the sanctions of those cheapie models.

I had RST gila T6 on my first ever bike. Diamondback response sport, it had all the goods tektro disk brakes, deor.....any way, those forks have been through more than my shivers, and they are still running smooth.

- 10 stairs to flat
- head height to flat
- multiple horrid nose cases

And it's still working fine....mind you I've kept it fully serviced.

I used to have old omni rst forks (if u can call them "forks") on the second bike i ever owned, and they had less travel then my rock shox on full lock out! :D

2.1kg? How does that compare to the other DJ forks? I like a little bit of weight in the front end of my bike so I just would like to know.

RRP any body?

I love them, look sweet. In my opinion the RST's have always been underrated, the RST T6's are a really nice plush fork...

- That would have to be a world first, RST plush and nice in the one sentence:)

To give you an idea.

Marzocchi DJ 1&2s are ~2.5kg
Marzocchi DJ 3s are ~2.9kg
Rockshox Argyle 302s and 318s are ~2.5kg
Rockshox Argyle 409 are ~2.3kg
Rockshox pike are ~2.2kg
Manitou gold labels are ~1.8kg i'm pritty sure?

So they're fairly light compaired to their counterparts.

i thought you might like to see another pro with the space forks. They amazed me when i first saw them too.
go to team up top, then micheal stephenson then penuts bike check and have a look at his bike. He is obviouly a good rider that is sponsered by some mad brands so obviously the kid can ride (watch his video and you will see he can) anyway for someone like that to be riding them must mean that they are either pretty good or he is paid well.

guy marshs bikes are so nice, that is his 26 incher

tonic fab howie i think that frame is called, its not a 26" fall guy

i am going to to a search on the space fork, i will repost if i find anything

EDIT: well i done a bit of research and found some people liked them and the space fork is on some big brand bikes like the black market completes, the new atomlab completes, 07 felt's and i even seen someone running the space fork on a transition double i think the name was and they were going pritty big;)

This cost around USD 200-220 in Russia, and can't imagine where it could be bought at yours :)

I don't rate the howie to be honest. I much prefered his fall guy. And Tonic fab are the biggest bunch of hypocrits ever, if you read their site they go on about how they'd never use 26" or discs or anything like that, then they go out and make one, smooth guys, smooth.

He's running a diffo one at the moment, too. A blue one still, with blue rims, not sure what forks, not sure if they where the RST's or not.

nickmann
12-05-2007, 09:58 PM
they do look alright but i reckon i wouldn't get them on pricipil becase theyre rst. but sometimes the only way of knowing whats good and what isnt is trying it yourself. I bought a mongoose black diamond triple. it sounds shit coz its a mongoose but it's not. so i suppose some "crappy" brands do make good parts:)

I've been searching all around for an idea for an RRP on these forks, nothing. No one has any info about prices. LBS said that they are going to find out for me and then said that they would be sub $500 which sounds promising. If theyre the right money, I'l get a set and do a test on them for everybody.

Cheers,
Winna

that would be cool, i was thinking the same, say if they were like around 400 bucks i was thinking i might get some and try them, and if they are too soft and shit i would just go custom and change all the internals

but i will just wait and see if you could find out how much the RRP is

maybe if 100 farkers chipped in $5 bucks you could buy a pair and test em.
If you dont chip in you dont get the reveiw.
Ill do it.

but then who gets to test ride em??? i dont think thats a verry good idea, but if i was in this, i would want someone like sam gardener or some who would push there limits

and i heard guy marsh asked for a 26" frame with disc brakes??

You cant judge build or component quality from a picture. Sure they look ok but maybe they are put together bably or they use inferior materials when they are constructed, theres usually a reason cheap things are cheap.
Having said that im open minded enough to consider them if someone can review them but I wouldnt get them without some serious recomendations.

Found out that the Australian Importer for RST is Monza (yes I'm a little slow), ringing them tomorrow and getting a price. These forks are apparently completely different to any RST fork made yet.:D I cant wait untill I can try them:)

I rode a set the other day. Felt like poo imo, had a real manitou feel about them, went down the travel in clunks, wasn't smooth at all; Sniffness of the fork itself was good, due to big stauncions. But they generally felt like crap, maybe they where set up odd, but I wouldn't be keen on throwing money into 'em.

Anyone else got an opinion on them?
