So who plays what? How long for? Lessons or not? Write your own stuff or sit their and learn other songs? In a band?

I play guitar, self taught for a while now. Got a funky amp and pedal not so long ago. Waiting on the funds for a nice guitar. Love writing my own tunes then again love playing all sorts of RHCP songs (:

let me have it....who plays what!

I used to play guitar, basicly just made up cool sounding riffs and used them in a band I was in, and taught myself songs from other bands (I never was good at reading music).

I stopped playing a while ago, because I was an aggressive guitar player, constantly broke strings (nearly a set a week), stuffed countless leads and foot switches and I just lost the desire to make my family deaf.

Piano and guitar and harp.... totally lost track of the first two... played the harp in a few blues bands (regular and scratch) up till GS started then no time and lost a bit of interest.

Interesting blend! What made you choose the harp? Is it half similar to a guitar? (ignoring the obvious differences)

What made you choose the harp? Is it half similar to a guitar? I'd say yes, in a similar way that the piano is similar to drums :P .

I play the geetar a little bit (and poorly). Never had lessons, just sorta picked one up one day, it was bound to happen though our house/shed is full of the damn things (see sig for reasoning). I enjoy it, but getting lessons made it feel too much like real work, so it'll just stay as a simple pastime.

I play the drums...duh

Mmm... I was in a band last year, i dont know whats happening now cause two band members have gone to uni, last year we entered in Battle Of the Bands and came second,.. I was quite stoked even tho I personally did a crappy performance ( you have no idea how nervous i was ). But im over that now. Bands are fun, hope i can make another one next year.

I kissed your lips and boke your heart*

LOL.I play U2 CD's (and Cassettes, may even have some records somewhere) into the night, VERY LOUDLY!...

Aside from that I dont play anything really, I have been wanting to learn to play GeeTah, and or Bass. I am pretty good on vocals when ever I'm in the mood, but nothing too serious with that.

The missus was also a Vocalist (Choir *sp, Garage band) until she colapsed on stage during a solo preformance (Choir), she wont even sing around me anymore (even quietly)

Damn... it's a pretty long list

Piano - haven't played for a few years now but started when i was 5

Clarinet - played for 4 or 5 years before moving along to the...

Tenor Saxophone (the best sax) - been playing for about 4 years now, everything from classical wind band music to latin, improv. jazz band stuff and ska... these days i get tabs from the internet and play along with bands such as Reel Big Fish, Goldfinger, Catch-22. I want to start up a ska/ jazz/ latin band but i'll see how much time i have this year.

Didgeredoo - been playing for 6 or 7 years. don't play it enough but when i practice i can do some pretty funky stuff... i'd love to use one in a band as a percussion/ beat providing instrument.

Voice - i'm no good but i've sung in many choirs over the years. I had a bad karaoke experience which has put me off solo singing for life! (note to potential karaoke singers: make sure you actually know the words and the tune before you get up...)

I've played in all sorts of bands (usually through school) which include wind bands (clarinet, sax and occasionally didge), jazz/ latin/ etc. bands (sax) and vocal ensembles (voice, duh).
One of the best feelings in the world for me is playing in a band and feeling everyone's part fit together. Even better when you're soloing at the Melbourne Concert Hall!!! What an experience!!!

If i was to add any more strings to my bow, so to speak, i'd look at taking up a brass instrument, probably the trumpet as i love the clean, crisp sound which you don't get from a saxophone.

I'm sure i've played others at times... these are just ones i've played for quite a while.

Ahhhhhh.... sorry, Josh.... "harp" = Harmonica, not the big triangular stringed instrument thingy. Gee... did you really picture me up on stage playing one of THEM in a get-down-and-dirty blues band?

Started playing guitar 17 years ago , no lessons , just sort of worked it out , learned from tabs or from friends. I played in two "alternative" cover bands from '96 - '99 , but I don't play much any more. I've still got all my gear though , so I still jam with mates occasionally.
We used to have a few originals .... although I wouldn't remember them now.
I lost interest in it about the same time I got into MTB... :D

Try this simple rule for karaoke success:

SYMPTOM: Your singing sounds distorted.
FAULT: The beer is too weak.
ACTION: Have more beer until your voice improves.

SYMPTOM: Don't remember the words to the song.
FAULT: Beer is just right.
ACTION: Play air guitar.

DRUMS. Had lesons through school from year 5 til year 12, mainly rock jazz and concert stuff. Went onto Pipeband druming, played with the Nationals Servicemans memorial Pipeband for 3 years. Still have all the gear including a 5 piece pearl export and 3 side drums (pipeband snares). Even got my Kilt still. Played with a garage band for a couple of months, they couldn't handle having a female drummer, didn't think it was right with the music we were playing. I had no probs with it!!
