Protec helmets arent actualy Australian standard.

"They wont save you from a crash, but at least they'll save you from the cops."

The most comfortable helmet I have ever owned.

Way to much for a plastic dome, a couple stick on foam inserts and some red straps.

I rate them though, personally wouldn't go another helmet now, so damn comfy, and saved me from a few scrapes as well.

They may not be Australian standards in terms of being able to protect your noggin from a car, but they arent designed for that. This is a skate helmet, hence the reason it's a Bucky signature. It's made to take many smaller impacts, and even some larger hits, but not while you're riding on the road and a semi trailer hits you.

Sure, they're comfortable, hence why i, and about two-thirds of the bucket-lid-wearing riders on farkin wear one. Sure, you can whack a shitload of stickers on them and they'll look cool and fit the part. But no, they aren't designed for road bicycle use. That's why they don't fit the Australian standard.

Nice helmet.
I just got my Bucky Lasek Signature Ace today after much searching through major bike and minor skate stores.
I bought it from Manly Blades and had it sent to Skater HQ if anyone is interested.

That's why they don't fit the Australian standard.

They brought out a range of bike version ones that i think do meet the standard (don't quote me) because the bike versions come with that permanent foam layer that you find in all the other helmets.
I would have got one but due to the adding of this extra foam they unfortunately now fit like all the other helmets (uncomfortably) and also look like you have a cooking bowl on your head.

The bike protec helmets are cool but they loose their uniqueness over the skate protecs.
As for the skate helmets, imo anyone who wears one might as well not wear a helmet. After a guy i know nearly killed himself hitting his head with a protec, i wouldnt go near the things if i was paid.
Only my opinion though.

BTW, side note for melbourne riders, a few weeks back at camberwell, out of 40 riders there, we counted 20 with white protecs that had red straps. Another 15 were helmetless.
Scene much?

did you know that those helmets are illegal. they don't pass the Australian Standards. Look how flimsy it is. They are comfortable helmetes though:)

so if he WASNT wearing a helmet, would his chances of dying increased?? if the answer is yes, then the helmet did its job. a helmet isnt a big force field saving you from everything. its to REDUCE the impact, not stop it.

and in relation to camberwell. im surprised there was even that many people wearing helmets!!

i rate the pro-tec skate helmets. i had a big crash a couple of weeks back (nosecased, landed directly on top of my head) which left me concussed and very sore. was probably looking at a cracked skull without my helmet on.

i wasnt even talking about his spelling mistakes. i was referring to the fact he said that helmets protect you from cars, which they obviously dont.

If the cop knows what he's talking about he will fine you on the spot you might as well not even wear a helmet.

ohh ok, well a helmet is not really going to completely protect you from a car accident to the point where you won't even have a headache, but I think the Australian standard helmets are going to do a lot better job when it comes to a horrendous accident such as that. I would much rather be wearing a helmet in an accident then nothing as it may just protect you from brain damage or death.
