umm, car workshops and even spray painters aernt going to know much about chroming cause its a special copper dipping process.

one other option you have with the stp frame, because its alloy, you can polish to a chrome finish. this is hours and hours of sanding, but totally worth it and will only cost what the sandpaper costs.

Sandpaper won't look as nice as real chromed metal.

There's some site that does fancy pants paint for cars - they do a paint that supposedly has a near identical finish to the real thing...

I can't remember the exact name :o

But they do other crazy stuff like paint that dries in patterns and shit

For the money it would cost to chrome it you could buy a bike that IS actually cool...

It would probably cost $1000 or more, provided you could find someone with a tank large enough to fit it.

Its not just dipping the thing in some chrome, there is heaps of prep work.

Just polish it like ned said I reckon.

rgm, if you spend enough time alloy can be polished as shiny as chrome.

$1000? no fucking way, not even half that!

People have some HUGE baths for chrome plating out there.

Sandpaper and polish would be lighter than chroming and actually make the frame a touch stronger, hmmm well maybe chrome would make it stronger also but I'm not sure.
Edit: I probably should have said tougher not stronger, less likely to crack is my point and as I said, only by a minescule amount.

Why would polishing make the frame stronger/tougher/less likely to crack? Surely all you are doing is removing material? Then any places where material is removed would be weaker?

unless you get it properly chromed it will make your frame weaker. After you polish it you would remove the anodising which makes your frame a bit stronger well thats what ive been told by a few people anyway oh and do the polish thing with the sandpaper im sure removing the anodising wont weaken it that much :P
