i have seen a coloured chain on a MTB at my local, just the larger links were blue and the inner links were just normal

You're an idiot. 75% of the time you don't even need to slam the seat. It makes it a hell of a lot easier to pinch doing barspins, no handers etc at that height - slamming it is just stupid fashionable shit.
