Hey guys...
I was just wondering if anyone have had any experience with either Sun MTX's or Single Track's.
Im looking for a set of rims similar to these 2 models and within the same pricerange..
Ive read a few reviews on mtbr.com etc. but still cant make up my mind.
If anyone knows any other rims which are better than these two and in the same price range then let us know cos im open to any suggestions
Any info would be appreciated.
Thanks.

My mate has a set of MTX's and I've seen them take some pretty big hits and stay true. Judging by the number of people on here who have them (just take a look in post your ride about 70% of people have 'em) they have to be good.

Mind informing us a bit more ... how much do you weigh? what bike are they going on? what kind of riding do you do?
Usually: if you're smooth and light => Single Tracks
if you're not that sooth and heavy-ish => MTXs
You can't really go wrong with MTXs, I've experienced both and they are great, just deppends on what I asked about (^) before.
But there are a lot of other very good rims out there, just browse through the net and search these forums.

You have to be careful with Single Tracks as there are two different versions, one welded, one pinned. The pinned version usually comes as an OEM product on a bike, this is what most people have and also the reason many people bag Single Tracks. The welded version is available only as an aftermarket purchase and is much stronger than the pinned counterpart and makes a great rim for DJ, 4X, trail riding, and as a lightweight DH/Freeride rim. MTXs are the same but the pinned version it sold as an S-Type so not as much confusion.

Yeah, I've been punishing a pair of polished single tracks on a Norco Manik HT, and I am an aggressive 98kg idiot.
No probs - so much for being for light riders lol. You have to ensure they are well built from the start. Don't blame the rim if it is laced to a shit hub with crap spokes - and built by a tool.
MTX are awesome, but these are the second set of Single Tracks I've owned without a prob. The first on a DH rig, current as mentioned on HT.
Good luck mate.

Just grab yourself the MTX's, they're a great rim. Good for all around hardtails to because you normally have a bit more pressure in your tyres and therefore wont dint them like crazy.

I think you mean Rhyno Lites are sold as OEM - pinned, aftermarket - welded.
All Single Tracks are welded.

Bit less common? Haha No way. And for the record, off Topic - but you'd be better off with EX721's on a streetlegal.

i think it depends on how smooth you are....
i run single tracks on my DJ bike and know i wouldn't want the extra weight of the MTX seeing as i wouldn't use it. however a mate of mine who does the same jumps as me runs a MTX and is constantly damaging it... he just is'nt as smooth.
i weigh 80 KG's.
hmm... if you were doing DH then i'ld say get an MTX for the rear and single track on the front.....

hmm, why the 721's over the 729. all i can see is the 721's are lighter. which is prob bad for me cause at the moment im heavy and a hack.

Sorry mate but you've got you're info mixed up there. OEM Single Tracks are pinned, check out any Giant DH Comp, Specialized Big Hit, etc that came from the factory with Single Tracks. My 05 Big Hit came with Single Track and they were certainly pinned and that's where the rim failed.

Never heard of a pinned Single Track, but okay.
**Edit** Just checked the Sun Ringle site and there is no listing for a pinned Single Track.

yes there is a pinned single track i brought a wheel stock off a sasquach and it was pinned and got a front wheel that was custom built with one and it was welded ;)
half of this forum has tried a set of MTX over their lifetime. bombproof, good for everything.
also the Rhyno lites are Welded OEM.

also the Rhyno lites are Welded OEM.
Rhyno Lites are Pinned and Rhyno Lite XL are welded. Both can come OEM as the Giant Talon features the Rhyno Lite and the STP-Zero and One feature the XL version.
Going off the SunRingle website, Singletracks are welded but thats under the rims section...Im inclinded to believe that OEM they arnt.
S-Types are sleeved...whatever that is.

If I ever manage to ruin my MTX's Ill buy another set in a flash.
I've just noticed one or two spokes a tad loos and Ive had them for ages. Ive smashed them on square edges rammed them into rocks and landed crossed up like a mofo and still they spin true to the die.
