hey all
just curious to know what you guys think when it comes to the best scene australia has to offer
i live in sydney currently
i ride a hardtail stp
i ride dirt jumps and skate park
i havent been lucky enough to find where most h/t riders are in sydney that ride the same as me so from what i can gather we must not have that big of a scene (correct me if im wrong)
im thinking of taking a few weeks off to go and ride with and at the best places in aus
so is there a scene in aus that would be worth making a trek down too
????????

There is a huge MTB scene in the Sydney area, and surrounding suburbs.
Maybe you should go to the Watering Hole and hook up a ride.
i dont know i think melbourne has a pretty big park/dj/street seen down there. i could be wrong though as ive never lived there but form pics of rides there it looks pretty big.

i dunno, drewbie...
while the spots to ride here are pretty few and far between, the scene itself is pretty great - we're getting a good 200 or so people to our DH races (and really only from SEQ), and in terms of brissie riders, everyone pretty much knows everyone else. so as far as the scene itself goes, its pretty bloody good. the riding though.. that leaves a lot to be desired

i have been organising rides in the city for ages now and only got 2 riders out of it
so i dont know why people are so shy wanting to be involved in meeting new people and having a mad session
you said we do have a large scene here and i dont doubt that one bit but i just dont know where to look to find it
i guess one day things will shape up and turn out for the best for all of us

This is the DJ/4X/Street section, not the DH section, squid.

regular city rides in Sydney are dead at the moment. Dunno why, but thats just how it happened. The end of an era and all that. I think people are just waiting for the next generation to come in and fill the gap. Most people who used to attend the cityrides are too busy nowadays to come.
As far as the DJ scene in sydney, Im biased but I'd say, if you have the skills its probably the best of all the other cities. Everything else is pretty crap. Our parks are flat, unless you trek it to remote places that don't have train services. DH is alive and kicking, but on fairly short boring and uninventive trails unless you know some good spots.
Then again, I love the city, thats still great fun as long as you don't get booted.

Geelong BMX scene is pretty big for park and street. They dont mind a few mountain bikers riding round with them either so its not bad.
In Sydney and Melbourne there also seems to be a lot of riders who hook up usually but I could be wrong.

well if u want my humble opinion it is that if u r looking for a dh track mt buller is the way to go but if its dj's that u r looking for i would sugest that u ride diamond creek trails
the Melbourne street sceen seems to have cooled off a bit too. there's still plenty of us arround, but people seem to have less spare time and the weather seems to have kicked back to traditional shit melbourne weather.
If you're going to go on a road trip and rideing / hanging out with the locals make sure you put up posts about two weeks before you go. I've left it too late when I've done this and no one responded until two days before I left. :o

Look for a start since it doesnt rain anymore in melbourne the weather is good. just because people dont take photos doesnt mean people dont ride. there is genrally heaps of mtbers and bmxers riding around all of melbournes parks you just got to know the right people....
