STP2.
Although many people put crap on the STP's there is a reason why they are so popular in the first place. The STP's have a very good frame with a nice geometry for a range of disciplines including dirt jumping.
Also the stp has a very good spec list. The STP2 while not having the top-of-the lot parts does have some decent parts at the price such as the forks.
The fireball has a lot of generic parts as well and I am not to keen on the frame.
So the STP obviously has my vote.

What? Have you been living in a hole?!
But as to respond to the question asked, go the STP. Great buy for the money, and you can upgrade as you go in terms of componentry.

My friend has a mongoose fire ball, all he has had is trouble.
Snapped gear cable, burst seal on his forks, back tyre rubbing on his frame once it ever locked up. It doesnt feel tight and i think the handelbars are bent

That's generally not the fault of the Fireball alone. All those things you mentioned are the components. Any lower end bike is going to have problems with things such as the forks and gear cable, especially if you ride hard and don't regularly clean and maintain it. If the bike doesn't feel tight, it most probably needs a service..

yes but if he buys the bike he is also buying the coponents. I guess if he is looking at lower end bikes then he doesnt money to replace all the components when they go gay. So i suggest a bike that is built solid with out all the fancy bits and work from there. Are the fireball and the stp 2 your only choices, because i have heard good stuff about avanti derelics and norco wolverine/kompresser.

maybe if second hand is an option, you could pick up an stp0 for a reasonable price, they have a good list of components and are pretty good for dj

You dont have to buy the Fireball just because you have it in your username. Besides you can ask an admin to change it for you.
If you were looking to buy those two bikes new i would say the STP2 based on the quality of it at a good price. However, buying any of these two bikes will put you back around $1000 brand new, But i suggest you look into a second hand bike off these forums as you could probably bargain an STP0 or something similar for around $1000. Most bikes on Farkin are very well maintained so theres no reason to not buy 2nd hand apart from the warranty issue.

aha... i dont really get it, everyone diss's the shit out of STP"s then everyone suggests them to every newbe rider looking for a bike:mad: it is farkin stupid!
and out of those two bikes i would scrap the idea between the STP and the Fireball and get the mongoose ritual cause it is better then the STP;)
the only real thing the STP has over the ritual is that it has hydro brakes, the ritual owns it in everything else if you ask me, it has sealed hubs and sealed cranks,a nice looking chromo frame, single speed, 26 inch and come in nice colours....everything you wont in a dirt/park/street bike
and from memory i seen the price tag for a ritual at my LBS and it was 900 bucks for the 06 i think

Go for the Giant STP 2, because the Mongoose's are renowned for frames cracking, so I would buy the STP 2 because they are well built, "speced" and jump really well! happy Buying. :D

me and a mate both got a new bike last august, my mate got the stp2 and i got the 06 mongoose fireball and i think they are both great bikes. i havnt had any trouble at all with the fireball and i went ss, got new bars and stem and new disk brakes and still no probs. my mates had a couple of minor probs with the stp but nothing too bad.
hope this helps

go stp, the frames are the best, components are strong. but if you go big you might want to get some new forks because my dj pros snapped at the crown.

Just consider that because the Fireball has horizontal dropouts it is heaps easier to convert to singlespeed as (nearly) everyone seems to do for dj/street.
