Hey all,

This is my first post, but I've been reading the forums for a few months. I actually come from a track cycling (sprinting) background and used to ride BMX. I have also recently acquired an 07 STP...

My question is, what sort of training (asides from riding) do you guys and the pros do?

I train weights 3-4 times a week, roller session once a week, and ride 1-2 times at the track (SOP or local trails - used to be a velodrome session twice a week)

What sort of level of training is sufficent to become pretty good at 4x?

Or should I stop thinking like a road rider, and just get out there on the dirt....

Thanks for the feedback in advance....:D

I think just get up your fitness by doing laps of things, like what I'll do when I start racing, is do laps of a block, up and down hills as fast as you can.

Just go to your local BMX track and keep doing laps. Maybe do 5 Full on laps then take a short break then go again. Then try just pumping the track with out pedaling because it'll work your whole body.

Practice gate starts, multiple lines through corners, being perfectly smooth. Be fit and strong. Learn to block out other riders when it can help.

Thanks everyone, apreciate the answers.

Apologies for sounding like the complete newb, but:

In terms of racing, are there any thing or tips i should know? I'm thinking of doing the NSW series remainder...

I'm also building up the stp. In track cycling, we only run one fixed gear, and the same obviuosly in BMX, so I'm wondering if that's what a lot of ppl do for 4x as well. I've ridden Sydney Olypic park a few times, and it always seems that I roll around that in one particular gear...

What sort of gear ratios are good for that track.... maybe 40x14?
