Reports are that the heavens opened up (rain, hail the lot) on the elite men field about 20 riders into the final runs (with 60 to go). With less than 20 riders to go the sun came out to provide some relief for the last few riders but it still wasn't enough for them to topple Marc Beaumont from the top position (on a dry track).

According to the Dirt site it's started raining and Hailing just after Beaumonts run, track could be getting bad:(

Yeah, I read that too. Sounds exciting. Is there a site that does (real) live commentary, or updates? Anyone have any "secret" sites that do this?

Yeah its a hard way to follow the races:(
Still If you flick around the sites you can get a feel for whats happening...
Good to see there's finally some movement in the top ten, I was starting to worry the timing wasn't working.

By the looks of it the track must be messed up..... only Pascal has cracked the top 10 in the last 20 riders. The moral of the story... qualify 81st :)

Crap, Hill still 3 seconds off..... Marc might have gotten this race cheaply....
Beaumont's got it. Track must be munted beyond belief if Hill couldn't even get close.
He better of laid of the hooch though, remember what happened to Houseman a couple of seasons back ;) You never know when you're going to randomly win a World Cup round because of a freak storm.

Aarggh. What a cheap victory.... Though to his credit Marc is a great top 10 rider..... I bet he wishes his victory wasn't decided by the weather gods and more for his body conditioning and skill. That's the way racing goes I guess....

So Marc takes it, certainly throws a spanner in the works for alot of riders in terms of points for the overall.
<Dirt "A Brit Won!" hyperbole>That's not a cheap victory! It's superior tactical riding and correctly reading the prevailing weather conditions </Dirt "A Brit Won!" hyperbole>

I'll go the latter -- let's just call him the Lennox Walker of Downhill!

Full times are up now on the World Cup site. Just got off the phone with the team over there - it was just a mission mid race to even see! It was pissing down and yes - it did hail.

Track must've gone to crap with the rain... How else does someone win a world cup with a time 6 seconds slower than the fastest qualifier?
Nice work to Marc, and to Hill for holding onto a podium in the rain.
Jeez, stop being asses and let him have his glory...
A win is a win. Well done Marc, its been a long time coming.

:rolleyes:Sam had a killer split time and was the only one doing a gnarly line boosting through rock garden, but in his run hit a pedal and bent his crank! he couldnt pedal after that.

Beaumont crashed in his quali, thats why he was down early,( blessing in disguise tho) Ben Reid was the first rider in the rain ... the tracks quite sandy but super pedally on the bottom half thats why it sucked in the rain. Some italian dude milivanti made up 6 sec on the bottom half to get top ten... goes to show what fitness can do... some of the top riders including team yeti went up on dry tires and didn't have time to change to muds so suffered a bit.... It was quite amusing to see the top guys come hauling down, check over their shoulder thinking they had a good run and then find out they were just top 30!!!! To be fair the online weather report ( on saturday ) said it would rain between 12 and 3 and if qualifying 80 out of 200 riders hadn't been so tight, I'm sure a few people would have tried to quali slower so they would get a dry run.....

Beaumont might of got lucky with his race run but watch out for him this year. I've seen him at some local races (I'm a brit) and he is scary fast!

beaumont is always capable of winning but theres no way he would have won if not for the weather... the track he rode was if anything quicker than it was in the quali's....no matter winning is winning ... as i said before the every one knew the weather would be dodgy..... poor guy tho was in the hotseat for an hour busting for a leak!
