A few people have asked me for photos of the 2007 Race Bike. This is not a 100% accurate set up, but here goes:
Frame: Terminator Medium (this is the standard size. Maltman will now be runing a custom Small frame)
Fork: Rock Shock Boxxer WC
Shock: Shown with DHX Air, but will run a DHX 5.0 with RCS Ti Spring
Brakes: Formula Oro
Cranks: Truvativ Hussefelt.
B/B: Truvativ Hussefelt team 83mm
Derailluer: SRAM X-0
Rims: Sun S-Type
Hubs: Sun Demon 150
Spokes: Sapim Aero. We are presently swapping these out for Sapim Race 2.0-1.8-2.0
Grips: DMR LOCDD
Tires: Kenda Nevegal
Chain Guide: Gamut P40
Stem: DMR HeadStock
HeadSet: FSA
Pedals: DMR V12 magnesium (not shown in this photo)
Seat: Selle Italia NT1
Bars: DMR Alloy Wingbar, 31.8mm
Chain: Sram PC-971
As shown it has a floor weight 35.8 lbs (16.2kg) (THIS IS LESS PEDALS, GRIPS AND SEAT - apologies for the omission) , but we are changing a few bits and expect the eventual weight to be more 37 lbs (16.8kg). We could go the weight weeney option and get it down to 35.9lbs, but we want to run a more reliable set up this year. We will be swapping out the shocks mid season and running a Vivid (if we can get one) and Cane Creek DB to use for testing for 2008.

Geez light:eek:
Looks good in its own way. Do you have just a frame weight?

Looking at the build, the frame would have to be sub 3kg with the shock (So at least 1kg lighter than a 224, probably 1.5). Looking at the frame i think we're being fed a line.

No Daver, you're not being 'fed a line' - However after waking up our Mechanic I did find that the weight was minus seat and pedals.
This adds 600grams to the wieght. I have edited the orginal post

Frame is just on the 8.5 lbs region. It is a prototype for 2008, so I would expect the finished product for sale to be more like 8.7 - 9.0 lbs as they normally err on the side of beefing things up. So on par with the Socom as a race bike, but a little over this by the time it gets into production.

But I have my doubts, sorry bro. Not that weight with that spec, get some real scales.

Hey - I am as skeptical as you, j5ive, so I did the maths (well the spreadsheet did the maths) based on the bits - and it is within about 220grms of what the guys measured in Germany... I didn't have weights on three of the parts though so had to improvise with some similar bits - so don't sue me if I am 200 grams under the final figure. I will get them to weigh it again at Winterberg as we have the rest of the parts for that one
I don't buy the weight either, there are some heavy parts on there such as the hussefelt cranks, heavy bar/stem etc. Like said above, i'd question frame durability if the bike is actually 16.7kg given the listed spec.

Wow! Bike of the month, I'd vote for it. Formula Oro's as well, nice, very nice.

At the end of the day it's a DH bike FFS.
Who really cares if it's just under or just over 17kg.
Anything between 16.5-17.5kg is a hell light DH bike.
Also good to see "the boy" is back in the Aussie team.

Shoot away guys - I am more than happy to be proven wrong
I have beefed-up the frame weight, taking into account that we are asking them to increase the size on the rocker pivot on the next generation of the frame. They increased it already from our feedback last year and increased the amount of metal in this area, but a couple of the riders are suggesting a larger pivot, so we'll give it a whirl (The current frame as is just on 9lbs).
I have included all of the new parts, but we may run the new Yutaak saddle (hey - it matches the jersey:) and there was some mention of a new Sun Rim (charger... I have heard of the Wheelset by this name, but no Rim, sorry)

We broke a bunch of them last year and this lead to a lot of changes that added some weight (and took some off when they swapped tubing suppliers to go to a stronger tube set). At the end ofthe day it is purely a race bike and is made as light as they can to do this job. The FR bikes (Whiplash) are about 1kg heavier because of this, yet look almost identical.

Not yet... and wait for the gasps of horror when people seethe weight of it... One of the problems with having the exact same suspension design for all the bikes is that it can make for a great light DH ride... but a slightly heavier 4X bike (it weighs in at +2kg above the Yeti). We are working on this now trying to trim some weight off it.

Huh? I had to have a look at a stab again just to see if there could be a comparison... you must be on some serious drugs, Custard :)
But you did at least get the 'lighter' right

Haha, don't want to shoot you down, but there is some serious flaws in your calculations, and these small mistakes add up over a whole bike. Don't get me wrong- The bike looks great, but you can't start quoting weights on what you've got below.
Frame 4.15 Medium
H/Bar 0.45 Based on the IXS DS1 that we will run- Heavy bar, could save some weight here.
Brake 0.52 Oro Puro
Shock 0.65 DHX5.0 with Ti Spring. 408 for a 9.5x3 + ~300 for any ti spring I have seen. What about hardware?
Fork 2.77 Boxxer WC
Cranks 0.61 Aerozine SL (these replace our current Truvativ Cranks) Interested in seeing these...
BB 0.81 Aerozine Custom 83mm with Ti Spindle
Tires/Tubes 1.45 Nevegal (again I would argue I have gone overweight here)
HOLD ON? Is that for one tyre? XC tube is 120grams at the lightest, leaving you with some thin ass thread.
Rims 1.4 SUN S/track (I think I put S-Type on the original Spec. We will run New Charger Rims later in
Hub Front 0.203 SUN Demon
Hub Rear 0.405 Sun fusion Custom
Spokes 0.298 Sapim
Seat 0.205 SLR
S/Post 0.195 Shortened Token Alloy
Chain 0.298 SRAM PC971 will be replaced by Wipperman, but they are the same weight
Chainring 0.163 Guessing here e13 is around 70 grams, save some weight..
Chain Guide 0.26 Gamut
Drivetrain 0.4 SRAM X0 including one shifter
Pedals 0.354 V12 Ti Spindle
Stem 0.32 DMR
Grips 0.14 DMR
Cassette 0.29 SRAM
Headset 0.15 FSA
Post Clamp 0.08 ?
TOTAL 16.571
I'm sure UDI will have more to add.. :)

Bar was over weighted on the figures - it is 340grms (yes - we could run lighter, I know)
Tires... Will check that. To be honest I didn't even notice it on the orginal figures (but hey I added a lot to the frame weight to be safe Fusion are wieghing James' new one for me tonight).
Can't use E-13 - sponsor clash with Gamut (But we will be running new lighter rings soon)
The shock was my mistake - Si gave me the wieght of the DHXAir shown in the photo that Jenna is still running (but I would not recommend for anyone over 70kg) and the spacers plus fudge factor.

Actually - on second thoughts - he's right, I am a wanker for letting meyself get dragged into a weight peeing contest... Who the fuck cares how much it weighs? Jared's 303 is so heavy it comes with landing lights and a big "Do not Pass turning Vehicle Sign" and it doesn't seem to slow him none.

True, some would even argue that 16-17lg is too light for a DH bike...
My Commencal is unofficially 17.5kg with some heavy-ish parts, and I would consider it nearly too light as it seems to get pinged around a fair bit on rockier courses... although having said that, the fact that I weigh only 74 kg wouldnt help a great deal.
So, I guess light is good to an extent, so long as it doesnt start to detract from the performance of the bike. Set it up good, put a good rider on it, and it will speak for itself.
Nice bike, I'd ride one:)

On the note of trying to talk about something other than the parts and weight - i am going to try (so long as it doesn't make me more of a wanker) to explain how it rides.
As a race specific bike it is a bit strange to see it being spec'd at +9 inch rear travel, and when we first looked at it as a potential ride we were thinking it would be really sluggish - but it is an unbelievable peddle machine. It does not have the low centre of gravity that would make it the 'rut-monster' that the Ironhorse seems to be, but it is still low enough to enjoy the mud. In the technical is where it really excels, being light enough (I know, I know, this is a weight issue) to flick about and with a cockpit that is easy to feel your way around in.

of course not. that would be completely counter-intuitive to throwing around baseless obviously wrong arguments on the internet.

I'm sure that's more like we all wanted to hear.
Glad to see you guys finally got over the weight issues.
GD, do yourself a big favour and wait until you have the final setup for the bike, wack in on a real set of scales and take a pic to prove to all what it actually weighs.

also heard some pro aussie junior team rider. cracked some certain frame in 7 spots, seperated the shock in half, and did other number of breaking stuff, which resulted in his 85th placing....
he might go better on a kona:)
