hey guys, I have a small problem here, but it only happens sometimes. also I did a search and found nothing.

so when I'm riding some trails and go off the lip my feet dont stay on the pedals, but it only happens sometimes and I dont know what it is. it doesn't feel like I'm doing anything different either when my feet come off, if you need to know I'm running DMR V8's and only missing 2 pins. yeah so any solution would be great.

also not accepting solutions from: djrider, djman, or nickmann. haha.

ive been into jumping about 3 months and this has only started happening in the past month or so

hmm this is weird, have the pins gone missing in the last month?

and are your feet full on slipping off? or it just drops from under you

maybe different shoes? less grip?

apart from that, comment back with some ideas?

na pins have been missing before that and theyre not in a spot where I'm gripping from much. I think the bike is slipping under my feet, because I can feel when my feet are just off the pedals, and I get more of an impact on landing. I wear globes when I'm riding because they are flat and give more grip then runners do because I have an arched foot so my runners have a curved bottom thingo.

Where are your feet on the pedals? Too far forward, or too far back perhaps?
Have you got extremely hard rubber soled shoes on with a 'large/deep tread?'
Are you bending your knees at all?

haha yeah, the wind is gay.

LLuLukLuke: not sure if I'm bending my knees too much if at all, djrider will know since hes seen me do it. yeah my shoes have a deep tred, also I think my feet are slightly forward from centre but I don't think thats the issue

stp rider: the run in has grass at the top of the hill and I do walk up it and it was sort of damp

if its your shoes that are the problem i have seen a lot of people using 5-10 shoes and as far as i know rate them very well. one guy told me they were close to using cleats, but who knows. hope that helps solve your problem. :)

new pedals. new shoes.

Umm. No. Probably not needed.

just no-footer it every time, at least you will become very confident at them

Bugger. Beat me to it mate. Haha.

Umm, All I can suggest is the position of your foot, and the jumping style. Your style can change as you get more confident, and through time, so don't discount that. I ride with my pedals on the balls of my feet, slightly towards the heel. But only slightly. Maybe try mixing it up a little off the smaller jumps.

Style wise, you might be letting the bike drop, and not pulling up as hard or as fast as you've gotten more confident with jumping things. Maybe you are just ovejumping, and it feels like a harder landing.

I'd say that the bike is dropping away slightly, or your body is jumping up too much. Replace the 2 pins, you may as well. Your local bolt shop will be able to do this, just bring in the pedals if they're threaded pins.

Yeh, just try changin things up over the smaller jumps and see if it will correct itself. Rip it up mate.

Luke.

5-10's are bloody grippy. I use them. I imagine it is the closest you can get to cleats without using them. They are a DH shoe though. I would never. Never DJ in them. If you need clips, or mega grippy DH shoes, it's not the shoes, it's your style.

yeah thanks for that mate, I don't think over jumping is the problem because its easy to fell when im not on the pedals anymore and i feel and hear it when I come down on the pedals

What shoes do you have..
This happened when i rode in my volleys (mind you the grip was litterally gone from the bottom)
But now i ride in some chunky dc's and its all good.

If you want a cheap way to get more grip you could buy DMR terror pins, which have 5mm of exposed pin instead of 3mm.

It could either be that the trails that you are riding are damp as said before and you could be getting mud and what not on your shoes making them slippery.
It could also be the shoes that you are using, they mightn't have much grip on them., What shoes are you using? If this is happening then 5 10's could be a good option, they're really grippy and really great shoes.

Actually this exact thing used to happen to me when i was starting out. Usually on descent kickers which kicked my back tyre up lots and my feet would just come off eg: logs and rocks and stuff like that. It doesnt happen any more but that is just all with practise. Im pretty confident in saying it has nothing to do with shoes and pedals. So just keep practising and it will go away, it will figure itself out. Well it did for me.

this is a stupid theory but maybe ur bike is heavy and u just drift away from it in the air???

Haro_MTB
07-06-2007, 07:51 PM
when u go off the jump, dont try and jump your bike as much. might sound weird, but this can keep you from being thrown up with the bike and your feet from leaving the pedals. :)

It's got absolutely nothing to do with grip at all, I can jump 30ft DJ's with thongs on and i can stick to the pedals like glue.

*It could be the positioning of your feet on the pedals, make sure you either have the pedal in the middle of your foot to the tip of your foot, never jump or ride with the pedals positioned at your heel otherwise your feet will fall of.

*Or you could be jumping stiff and cramping up in the air, try tweaking the bike in the air to illuminate cramping up.

*It could also be that the jump is to small for a MTB so as you leave the lip the front end drops before the rear wheel even begins to make contact with the lip. This will throw you forward and of the pedals and probably end in a no-footed nose chunk.

*Or you could be jumping to fast and not A) Preloading for a big jump.
or B) pumping for a little jump, if you just pedal you ass of and hit a lip without doing anything just staying stiff you will end up nose diving and your feet will leave the pedals, again leading into a no-footed nose chunk.

Try relaxing a bit and throwing in a little bar turn or whip to prevent cramping.

Oops sorry Pavey, didn't read past the first page and forgot to check the date on the thread.
