Gday
have heard about the track off Mt York, starts about 5km east/north from Mt Victoria, heads back towards Mt Vic and then heads down to Hartley, across some land and then back up to Mt York
Can anyone provide a link to a map or give a better guide as to where me and a few mates are riding. Heading up Monday and it should be great, just would like to have a better idea
help needed :)

G'DAY
in that area there are a few rides.
Berghofer pass it runs along side the Great Western Highway from Mt Vic to the bottom of the pass
Off Mt York road is another run called Lawsons Long Alley it follows an old coach road down into Hartley Vale it comes out near the Comet Inn.
There are other tracks but i cant remember their names.
Apparently they are all ok to ride only a couple of sections where you may have to get off and walk.
There would be maps af the area on a Parks and Wildlife Site

All the tracks cross private lease hold but the owners are reasonable. Lockeyers track and Coxes Road are the pick of the trails for going down. Berghofers pass for riding up though it is possible to ride up Lockyers and Lawsons Long alley with a bit of pushing.
The whole area is currently subject to a redevelopment/regeneration proposal with MTB being recognised as legitimate users.
There are two popular options. Park at the bottom near the Comet Inn (Track head marked, and follow the dirt road back out to the highway and rid up Berghofers pass. Once at the top follow the signed trail along Lockeyers.
Or follow Mt york rd right to the end, park there and ride Coxes Rd, this is steeper and slightly more technical than the others.
From the bottom follow Lockeyers trail back tot he top, There are one or two spots where you will be off and pushing but it's still OK.
Be careful at the Coxes Trail head. It's a popular area with climbers/abseilers, walkers and historians and so people can pop up out of nowhere.
I'd also recommend walking the first rock steps or atleast find the alternate gully around.
It's all ridable but the steps are chipped with historic pick marks and these are being destoryed by riders and climbers, which has the history buffs calling for our heads. Once the redevelopment is done these steps will be off limits and the alternate entrance offers just as good a ride anyway.
Lawsons Long Alley is another otpion but it's only a soso ride. The descent is steep straight and over quick. The ride out through the farmland is pleasant but nothing special.
All trail heads are clearly marked. Both Comets and Collets inns are close to the bottom trail heads for lunch or a cupper.
The coxes, Lockeyers Option is detailed in Dave Nobles page http://members.ozemail.com.au/~dnoble/Sydneyrides.html

Would be cold if starting early.
me and a few mates did it a month or so back, great track.
We rode down cox's rd, turned right at the road at the bottom, past the pub along the dirt road, up Lawsons long alley then back down Lockyer's and back up cox's rd. Great fun especially riding down cox's and lockyer's.:D
