I was wondering if the fox Vanilla R rear shock 7.875"X2.25" is a decent shock for freeride and if there is much pedalbob when using it on road or uphills.

It's usable. But basic. As to bob when peddaling... that will depend on how old the shock is. And if it has Pro Pedal valving internally.

The Vanilla R got a hell of a lot of OEM spec (fitment) to all mountain/freeride bikes in the mid to lower price points. But people were hammering them.

So Fox came up with a new shock based on old design. The VAN R. Think of it as a DHX with all the adjustments stripped away to keep the price down.

Hope this helps.

Elvis.
