 Just wondering if anyone could shed some light on what sinngle speed Rear hub I should get, converting a Kona cowen to single speed. And is it worth getting a chain tensioner?

hope pro2 SS. light, 48 engagements, LOUD

as for a tensioner, its probably worth it, but not entirely necessary - with a KMC koolchain and a halflink you should be able to get pretty good tension, but a tensioner would help.

he wont need a tensioner, they have sliding drop out, but yeah i suggest buying a KMC chain when you go single speed

with the hope pro 2 single speed hub it doesnt look like it comes with a rearsprocket or anything, so do you just buy like a regular ss kit or do you have to buy a special one because i don't think regular ss kits will fit on it...

mate...you dont need a new hub just to go single speed, you have sliding drop outs, just buy a new KMC kool chain and a single speed kit that will cost a total of $60 or maybe even $40, then if you buy a hope pro 2 single speed hub with will cost you like $250 bucks of E bay! and then you need it to get laced up then a single speed kit and everything else and i think that is $300+

EDIT: unless you wont a single speed hub, get it:)

the hub will come with the right spacers. all you need is a cog and a lockring

If the Hope is out of you budget Tuff-Nek SS Disc hub is pretty nice an well priced. You won't need a tensioner on the Cowan the sliding dropouts work will give you all the tension you need. If you end up having to run the dropouts all the way back get a half link.

you can buy "cassette style" rear sprockets from about $12, they come in sizes from 12t through to 20t. They aso come in two widths 3/32" (narrow) or 1/8" (wide - BMX size)

3/32' is the same width as 8 speed but it is not the same as a cog off an 8 speed cassette.
