Not hard to get to $10G paying retail for parts and building a bike up that way. $4500 for frame, nearly $3000 for 40s,and so on and so on.
I remember being in the lbs a couple of years back, some kid had a 222 with MRD X-Works, Hadley, XTR and the like - I seem to remember him mentioning it cost him around 12k new

The Ellsworth Oracle People. Retailing for $10,000 US.
The Oracle starts with the Epiphany's basic geometry and travel and starts from there. This bike will have a titanium front triangle and custom carbon fibre seat stays coupled with an aluminium assymetrical chainstay. The Oracle will only be available as a complete build, with a custom wheelset using Ellsworth's new carbon rims and a proprietry Chris King hub set. The rider will have a choice between Sram X-O and Shimano XTR components. Titanium and 7075 aircraft grade aluminium will be employed for the bike's fasteners. Magnesium gets used in the rocker arms. As a final touch the rider can have his name burnt into the frame. "You can't etch titanium," explains Tony. "So we came up with a laser that burns the name with the coolest blue, rainbow tint to it. It looks so good."...The bikes will be made for each customer.

Back in the mid 90's there was a company that made a frame out of pure Beryllium.
I think they were called "American Beryllium".
They only made one frame.
I think it had a price somewhere around $25,000 usd.
There have been some other berillium frames but no where near as pricey because they alloyed the berillium with other metals.
I had a quick look on the net but couldn,t find any pics.
If anyone has a pic please post it up.

Yeah I had a magazine with that berilium frame in it,it was bonded together from memory. I'm fairly sure the mags long gone but I'll have a look. It was an american mag I'm fairly sure.

yer there are a heap of frames but only a few gearboxes that go in them(this is because a heap of them were stolen supposedly). anyways i am pretty sure once you pay for frame and components the yeti 303 would cost a lot more than 12000 dollars.
cheers blake

In 1998 a Rotec DH retailed at $18,500 complete.
I think it would be difficult not to spend $12k or more on a DH racebike build.
