Just wondering on your thoughts. I can buy them for a similar price, which would be better?

Do a quick search dude. There was a thread almost exactly the same of this started about a week ago. Keep in mind that XT's are the same as Saints which might help in your search.
Personally I ride XT's and reckon they're the best brake by far of all those that I've ridden (including juicy's)

I ride on Juicys and while they are a great brake, they dont compare to that of Shimano XT....XT are superior in nearly every aspect...power...modulation...even bleeding is easier! I strongly recommend them mate!

XT, Do it! Now!
Shimano just seem to be years ahead in terms of modulation, power, and most of all RELIABILITY.

Shimanos.
I run Deores on two of my bikes - both are over 3 years old and I haven't had to touch them, other than new pads.

Shimano without doubt! Best brakes in my opinion - great feel, great power, great modulation and soo simple to set up!
i would take the XT's although i ride juicy 7's....
I was in the same situation. Shimano no dout!

I am going to Jump onto the Shimano bandwagon.
I just recently bought a set of Shimano hydro's and without a doubt they kill the many sets of Juicy 5's that I have ridden in every aspect that I can think of.
Another vote for Shimano

Oh yeah, XT's all the way (In best Chef voice)...
Haha, I can't believe how much of a shimano fanclub this place has turned into.

xt from my experience (XC) are better than the 5's. Still the 5's are do doubt a good brake.

Just to throw another option out there what about the Magura Louise?
An awersome brake with even more modulation than a Shimano and more power, along with a 5 year warranty.
Also about the same price.

Good lad! haha
In all seriousness though, you will not have a problem with the Shimano brakes. As Matt H and Dicky have said, they are reliable as anything. I've never had to do anything to them except for pad changes and a bleed (which really isn't hard at all :p)

XT's for sure.
I was choosing between the Juicy 5's, Magura Louise or XT's and went with the XT's in the end. Sure they were a bit dearer than what I could have got the 5's for or the maguras but consider also:
Easy to bleed
Easy to shorten hoses
Cheaper parts (brake pads / bleed kit) compared to others.
Juicies have more known problems but hey there are probably a lot more of them around so that's to be expected.
Magura - well have you seen the price of a bleed kit!
If you want another option to look at then the Formula K18 (or K24s, Oro) and the like are probably another great choice, although your pockets need to be a lot deeper:D
XT's are a good choice. cheap to run & trouble free.

how would you rate them compared to juicy 7's?
are the xts 1 piece caliper or a 2 piece?

I have never personally had juicy 7's only hayes soles. With the soles there was no modulation!
Some people love their J7's others have trouble with them so
The XT's are a one piece caliper, and the LX are two piece.
