Dirt Is Good

gday fellas.
just wondering if any of the melbourne riders have noticed construction on st. pauls (i think) (or whatever that big cathedral opposite flinders station)
anyway. back to the point. theres a mad set of stairs down the side of the church (next to ipod shop) and you can ride up them and boost of the top (mad air acheivable) but some pricks have put scaffolding partially in front of it. anyone know if its still rideable? i ran past the other day (for tram) and glanced up the driveway to see it all blocked offish. not impressed. i stopped but didnt go to look. (missed my farkin tram) if anyone knows if its still boostable, would be much appreciated. (or i could just go have a look myself).

I don't know you, but I bet you're a limp-dick weasel.
It's a Church you cock head. I'm an Athiest, but I have enough respect to stay away from buildings like that.
Your name is Dirt is Good....do you know what dirt is? Those stairs are not made of dirt BTW.
Have some repect you dimwit.

Yeah I agree. I hate those vandals. Just the other morning I went to my local trails only to find the run in blocked off by some tossers with shovels doing some maintenance on the jumps! I had to wait 30 minutes while they bloody finished up before I could ride again. Not happy at all.

Remember, boosting is one of God's creations too!
Also, I hate this idea of "Mountain bikes are made for dirt maaaan". Who gives a toss where you ride them? Why should people be hassled for riding in town? Street riding is fun, hitting shit up is fun!

Granted I don't know the place in detail but 'Dirt is Good' did mention the stairs were "down the side of the church" so I assumed it was on so-called sacred ground.
Do me a favour and delete my post if you wish.
PS...I'm an Athiest Johhny. Have you read The God Delusion yet?? haha.

Nah, no need to delete anything. Riding in the church would be a different story. I can't see riding on stairs is an issue, even if it is on church ground. This is of course only my personal opinion though.

and besides. they are bluestone stairs and bluestone is a rock, which comes from the ground, so therefore closely related to dirt. ;) ya knob.

Come on mate, settle down. Im sure the scaffolding is there for a good reason - not just to annoy you! It will be gone before too long. Everyone needs to take a deep breath :p

ease up there tiger (or should I call you a cock head for good measure?).
it is not as though you are wheelieing up the aisle, and launching off the pulpit. the stairs in question are behind the church in the car park, and link the carpark to Finders Lane. they are also, IMHO, fair game.
edit: whoopee! 500th post <does little dance...>
edit 2: shit, for an atheist, you sure do take this holy ground thing pretty seriously. are you sure you're not agnostic?!?!

Id rather see people riding around Churches, then emos and drunks hanging all over and around, like the one on Swanston/Flinders corner. Just out of curiosity (not trying to start any debates or bag anyone) but are emos generally aetheist or anti-religion in general? I was under this impression, and find it quite funny that they often hang out at a church:confused:
Back on topic: If someone has put up scaffolding, is it to block people riding there? If so, generally your best bet to stay away and find somewhere else.

I think you will find the scaffoldign is there for the workers, to maintain the large arch way the stairs are under... not there to stop you from riding, there just doing there job no need to get angry abotu it...
i used to love those stairs, but cant ride them early mornings due to al the homeless people that sleep at the top of them, once sessioned them for a good 30 minutes before we realised there was a guy sleepign in tthe corner who chased us out.
sicks stairs i must agree.. so small (in height), and partly rounded, if you get enough speed you can actully ride up them and boost of the top!

That is so 2004, pros nowadays just don't ride at all. Follow the trend, it's cool.:)

Not sure on atheist, but definitely aestheticist.
Are you guys in melbourne so hard up for spots that you complain when you can't ride UP some stairs?

it sounds weird, but these stairs are rather fun to ride up. (pedestrian traffic over the last 100 years or so has worn a smooth groove in the stairs)
they are definitely worth a bash on the way to somewhere else, and if the mood takes you, worth a turn around to have another couple of goes.
they are not an urban session in themselves, but merely a good transition between fed square, and the stair run near rialto for an urban assault. aaahhh the good old days!!

They are stairs what is the difference between riding and walking on them. Why don't you grow up you loser! These forums are for friendly discussion only.
Only problem I see with riding some places in town is the damage some riders do to the stairs, railings, flower beds etc. Have had thousands of dollars damage done to the polished granite, sandstone and slate areas in the front of our building in Brissy by urban riders. Cameras have been installed now to tape incidents as it was costing so much in maintainance and repairs.

Are you looking for sympathy?
Did it sound like it?
Why would I want your sympathy?
Makes me laugh how some riders think that their riding doesn't damage anything. Yet they whinge like all hell when they get told they can't ride places anymore or worse still get given a bill to fix the damage.

Shhhh.... Don't go givin' the damn pollies any ideas!
So if you all think churches are off limits does that mean i have to cancel my trip to ride Uluru?

Simple, they aren't rent a cops. Nearly all of Brisbane CBD is under 24 hour cameras now so it isn't hard to pick someone up blocks away.

What do you mean by ride Uluru?
I think walking all over it is incredibly disrespectful and I will never do it. Riding all over it is the same.

I think walking all over it is incredibly disrespectfulTo the people that make $$$ out of it.
Walking all over it is dangerous (a number of accidents by silly tourists every year), which is a big chunk of the reason they ask you not to.

Just seeing if people have the same respects for a non mainstream belief system.
I respect your position on the wishes of the locals that they do not like people walking/climbing Uluru. But i personally would love to see the surrounding countryside from the top of the rock. And if i had the chance to do so i would. Maybe i just look at it differently because its not a man made structure.

If Queensland Police don't want their building getting torn up they'd do well not to commission a building that looks to most people like it was meant to be ridden on next time ;) Seriously, that place is like a freakin' skate plaza. Not to mention the quarter pipe sculpture that was built out the front of the new (magistrates?) court house that they eventually had to install giant blocks in the middle of to stop people riding it.
I've never ridden your building but I've wanted to SO many times it's not funny. It just seems to me that the most logical place you're going to get busted is riding on police HQ.
Hehe, wrong building Ryan. They are in about 5 different ones in town now.
