Does anyone have any info about MTB Dirt Jump comps around Brisbane?

If there are none I would like to organise one at the blue nurse jumps.

-26" ONLY
-registration on the day
-2 classes; either skill or age.
-$5 entry fee for the higher skill/age $2 for the lower one, winner gets 50% 2nd place gets 30% 3rd gets 20%.

Should we have set judges or a crowd vote?

Does anyone have connections with bike shops or the like that could organise other prises?

do you actually think this is a plausible idea? Or would liability be an issue?

If this is a stupid idea because of something I've over looked please be gentle.

if your thinking of running a comp have you thought about public liability and all those other life ruining costs :( probably something to consider. how would it be judged? also who would judge this? dont mean to rain on your bright idea or anything.

1.it should be a crowd vote or set judges
2.wether liability would be an issue

I've been thinking....

The most plausible way to do this would be a game of F.A.R.K.
-$2 entry fee
-winner takes all
-26"only
etc....

That way theres no disputes about judging or whatever, and it's easier to work out prize money.

Would age/skill groups still be the go? Maby that would be decided on the day, depending on who enters...

That sounds like a fine idea to me...you would need the go ahead from gav for legal reasons, he will also probalbly want to have the cash from the enrty's.......?Probalbly a jusge thing woluld be best...seeing as I cant ride for donkey balls Id have a go at judging...:o

EDIT: whoopsy...p[osted this at the same time ^

or have a "get together" get like $5 off everyone, have 2 or 3 different divisions(maybe u/15s u/18s and over 18s) and playing f.a.r.k would be the easiest way, no judging needed.
and they cant sue you or whatever.
All money from that div goes to winner.

Maby if we wanted to make this a regular thing we should hold it at differant venues?

If theres enough interest I'm thinking we should get together for a game of F.A.R.K. with prize money ASAP.

Who would be up for next weekend? (As in maby sunday the 14th)

i like dirt

A few of mates have set-up things similar to this and everyone puts in $10. a few people are then asked to be judges. everyone takes 5 runs and the best run is the winner. It is also rider judge so riders get a say.

then the winner takes all the money :)

$2? Seriously.... That's not even a train fare. $5 minimum.

Unless its a primary school age comp of course, then $2 would be acceptable.

I'm up for that. we'll see if we can get duck-man up here to take some pics of the days event. I reckon F.A.R.K would be the way to go. I'm up for the $5 for the older age and $2 for the younger. were else could it be held other than nurses and maybe sumners we dont want to go to far from were people live or else they wont want to compete.:D

you could always have just an unofficial comp.
a comp by riders for riders seems all the go these days. and with the liability risk, you could simply get competitors to sign a liability waver on registering

with all the laws these days, you'd probably need medics on sight such as first aid trained people. Would be best having an unoficial (sp) comp.

$2? is the winner going to go home with a sack full of gold coins?

You would have to have a couple people in the competition to get something out of 2 dollar entry fees.

You can't run a "competition" on public jumps without permission. Definantly no; you need to go through a club, if you want to hold it at nurses, get onto whatever that local club is, I don't like your chances though as it will need to be a lot better thought up than that, and they already hold one a year.

If it's just you and a few mates, then I don't see the harm in holding a little thing just chucking some change on the ground and going at it, just like a jam, I guess. But there is very strict rules/regulations reguarding liability, ect ect. Ask someone like Oppy, he should be able to tell you.

Basically, don't just go around waving about this competition you've orginised, it needs to be done properly, through a club/council or you could fuck something up for all of us and/or cop it big time in terms of fines, ect.

yeah i think it is a sick idea but blue nurses is a bit on the dull side. still do it

we should get skate park comps going for mountain bikers. the skatepark/street "scene" is slowy growing and it would be a sick idea for it to happen. even if you we just have something unoffical lots of fun. i think there is quite a bit of undiscovered talent in bris so if it happened it our be great.

Yeah, thats what I thought.
BUT, I still reckon we should have organized games of F.A.R.K. even without prize money.

I aslo like the idea of skatepark comps.

Im up for the unoficiall idea of just throughing some change in a hat and going for a comp, a game of F.A.R.K and who ever wins gets the money in the hat and if someone get injured well kinda bad luck, because i dont think clubs will alow it. Im also up for the same kind of idea in skate park/street comps.:D
