G'Day farkiners,
Im purchasing a new set of cranks, Shimano Hone with 36T and i was wondering what length would be better for me and what the difference in length does? Its between 170 and 175mm. If it helps i own a 2005 norco rampage and im riding mostly DH and DJs.
Cheers,
Greg

We know nothing about you.
I am led to believe that, The longer crank arm's give more leverage for pedaling, The shorter one's don’t give as much but don’t scrape as easy?

^ Longer the crank, the more leverage = easier to pedal ^
If you are a midget, long cranks may not be a great idea as your legs will have to be further apart....?
But shorter cranks would not get bash as often in rock gardens etc.

175mm is the most common.

My understanding is that the shorter the cranks the easier / faster the acceleration. the longer the cranks the easier / better the leaverage, so you can maintain momentum better.
Someone please correct me if I'm wrong.

having run both 175 and 170 cranks i'd say i prefer 170. Just seems abit faster IMO, and felt more comfortable as my legs werent so far apart.

The shorter they are the lighter they are, must be saving grams if you do the shorter option...!
