(Pretty much the name says it all)
G'day guys/girls, I was thinking the other day. What makes a Huck, just landing to flat or more than that? What would you call a huck?

i reckon a huck is just anything you drop off so... step-downs or even flat. but the drop off has too be flat as well (like no kicker or lip)

Doo-ing a drop/gap/jump that is unessesarily harsh on you or your bike.

I reckon a huck is exactly the same as stated above. But a hucker is someone with no apparent skill. Just plough through the middle. Ever see a guy at DJ's just flatland everything because he gets more time in the air? Well he's a hucker.

try www.dictionary.com
you kids are trying way too hard to define something that has no true definition. and it doesnt need one either! there isn't a specific size or dimension of a jump that turns it into a huck!

I agree with Sheepy. I disagree about the whole "your a hack because you huck".

To me its more of a jump/gap/drop that is a huge effort to get over. You cant just launch it you have to "huck" it. Also pretty much anything stupid to flat or something huge with a tiny tranny.

A huck is a drop-off roughly over 2m that is done at a fairly slow speed.
A huck, the act of a rider hucking, is where he or she approaches the drop slowly, lifts up the bars close to head high, incorrectly positions the body often landing heavily on one wheel. Speed is greatly reduced from hucking.

Thats what i think of a huck.Other riders all ways seem to use the word "huck" too much.It gets on my nerves but i calm down and explain it to them, the diffrence between a huck and what ever else there is.

I once saw a big two page spread in a bike mag about the word "hucker". It was based on a Pro Freerider getting angry at the general public of mtb. He repeated a number of times that he thought that the word “Huck” was so American and should not be used in australia, thought it sounded horrible and was telling the readers that people need to know the difference between Freeriding and Hucking. He also said how alot of downhillers either Hate huckers or love them which I knew was spot on. I learnt that it can be a very offensive word to downhillers.

Hucking:
A term used to refer to stupidity and sometimes lack of skill in riding. Often in conjunction with references to extreme stunts with no real flow or tact, for example drops without transfers ("Drop to flat," or, sometimes "Huck to splat") relying on the suspension travel to save the day as opposed to riding skill and/or the jump/drop/gutter in question.
Huckers:
Generally known to be stupid, gung-ho and dropped on the head at birth. Signs of a hucker can sometimes include headslap on landing (sloppy technique and lack of poise on a bike, also possibly induced by the ridiculous size of the jump/drop/gutter) and an alarming tendancy to keep the legs straight during landing rather than bending the knees to soak up the impact (also a sign of being dropped on the head and/or a lack of finesse/brains on two wheels).
Many believe that hucking and huckers are a pimple on the face of Mountain Biking, and riding in general. Others respect them for the cojones they display when they perform such amazing[ly stupid?] acts on a bike.

for me, a 'huck' is a drop, where the rider drops further than they are gapping.
i.e. a drop that is 7m from the takeoff to landing in hieght and 2m gap, is a huck.
drops to flat arent hucks, they're stupid...:p

Well I say a huck is anything that involves dropping or launching off something. Whether it be a stepdown or whatever, just gives me an excuse to scream out huck and then so I can think to myself how cool I am.....

Many believe that hucking and huckers are a pimple on the face of Mountain Biking, and riding in general. Others respect them for the cojones they display when they perform such amazing[ly stupid?] acts on a bike.
ammended that for ya there;)

I thought a Huck was dropping of a non "man made" drop ? Not sure, but thats what my interpretation of a Huck was.
But if the drop has a stable man made ledge and is regarded as secure then it is no longer considered a huck because the drop or ride is considered ridable by its own line or man made structure.
I think i read somewhere that Berrycloths reply to what a Huck is, "Throwing yourself off a cliff with no regards to the takeoff or landing transition". He also stated that if the drop has man made structures added to it then it is a controlled environment of sorts and really is not considered a Huck because it is a given that the drop has been "Made" and as such is expected to be ridden.
Now if you come to a big drop and it has no super buff lip or landing transition and you hit it anyway, well you just Hucked yourself!
Again not sure, but my 2 cents worth anyway.

When i "huck" off something its a drop.
to me a huck is a drop of any sort. It is always your own personal interpreation so dont rag on people about. if all else fails just go ride.

to pro downhillers a lot of you are probably huckers(lack of skill, form)so in fact it is the skill level not the drop that matters, i dare say sam hill could ride easy
what a lot of you regard as a huck
